3068.0. "Page and Plant tour" by NOTAPC::HARPER () Mon Apr 10 1995 10:14

    After seeing the Page Plant concert at the Boston Garden last night I
    think we need a Page/Plant entry in Guitar Notes. Mod, If there's a
    better place for this please move it.

    This show left me totally dumbfounded. Just try and picture Page and
    Plant center stage. To the left and behind is the Boston Symphony. To
    the right and behind is an Egyptian band complete with violines and
    your basic ancient drums and hornes.

    Equipment: Page went through 8 or 9 guitars and multiple effects and two
    AC30 Vox amps. He also used some Paul Sebring (sp?) stacks.
    The other guitar player used a Strat and a funny looking black hollow
    body with what looked like a strat head that said Gibson on it in big
    white letters. His amps were Blues DeVille and a little Messa tube
    amp.

    Bass player used Marshall.

    The concert was a medley of old and new with a Doors (Break On Through)
    song thrown in. They introduced a British chap that did a 10 min solo
    an a 11th century herdy gerdy. This guy was lightning fingers.

    I could feel the adrenaline flowing in the Garden and will take at
    least a couple of days to come down.

    Are you serious about the orchestra thing? Was it a typcial Gah'den
    stage setup or did they do something special? How about tunes, etc.?
    Was it like the Un-Ledded TV special?

3068.3Stage setting etc..NOTAPC::HARPERMon Apr 10 1995 12:1420
    The stage took almost 1/3 of the Garden floor. It had two large
    platform areas in the back that were elevated and surrounded by
    plexiglas for the orchestras. Plant introduced the Egyptian band
    as friends of his that he met while in Egypt. The other orchestra
    was the string sections from the Boston Symphony. I heard that as they
    tour they will use local symphonys from whichever city they're in.

    I don't have cable, so didn't see the Un-Ledded special. They only
    stopped three or four times in between songs. Most of the songs were
    tied together by little solos by the Furdy Gurdy, dueling solos by the
    1st violin of the Egypt band vs. the Bos symph vs. Page and then right
    into a different song. A couple of times they went into a little part
    of Black Dog or some other classic for about one or two lines in the
    middle of another song. The crowd went crazy.

    The show ended with a 10' spot circle on Plant and Page with their
    hands grasped and held high in the air and this image stayed on the
    large screen long after they left the stage.

    Unbelieveable.

    Thanks for the update Mark!!! Sounds like it was a great show. I've
    heard that it's quite an experience hearing the whole ensemble live
    rather than via video or CD.

    Getting psyched for tonight's show, 5th row center!!!!!

Well I went to the Monday night show and took yesterday off to recoop! ;)
Mark really gave a good discription of the show. The place was buzzing!!!
I was in the 5th row and I had a hard time hearing certain parts of some
of the songs due to all the screaming and yelling. I had to take some time
yesterday just to try to remember all the songs, which I seem to be having
a problem doing.

It was somewhat set up like the MTV show but this was definately a lot
looser and really rocked. It was just the band with I think the Hurdy
Gurdy player for most of the first hour.

Here's a list of the songs that I can remember of the top of my
head with some comments. I'm sure I'm missing some.

Thank you
Shake my Tree (very surprised to hear Plant sing this C/P song)
Since I've been loving you
Song Remains the Same (this song cranked! my favorite of the night)
Hey Hey What can I do (Great surprise to hear it, crowd sang the whole song)
4 sticks
Hang Man
No Quarter
When the Levee breaks
The Wanton Song (great tune!)
All of my love
Calling to you (Plant song with Melody)
    * Hello Mary Lou
      (It was funny, Plant just started singing it and Page looked at him
       like he lost it, then laughed and joined in)
    * Break on through
Ramble on (can't remember if they played the whole thing
A very small bit of Dazed and Confused
Yallah
Some song I never heard (guess it was the Cure one)
Kashmire (Finale, I was surprised that it was only one song)
