| Anson Funderburgh. Catalog says the label was
started in order to put out his stuff. Is he yet
another heavy player I don't know? Former member of
something or other?
I had never heard of Anson Funderburgh (and "The Rockets") until last week.
KDHX, the local St. Louis Blues/Alternative station, played a cut
from him last Wednesday, called "Rack'em Up", from the CD of the same name.
I called the station to get more info, 'cause I want to buy it. As I
recall, based on just the one hearing, the song could be used as a tutorial
for harp players. Not that it was classic or anything, just that the
harmonica was prominent and gave the impression that it was achievable.
Strange, hearing about him twice with a week.
Blues, definitely.

By all means, get both the Black Top Records "Bluesarama" and
"Blues Guitar Spotlight" (that being one of my all-time favorites).
They were bargain-priced when I got 'em as any good sampler
should be. I've since bought some Anson Funderburgh, Snooks
Eaglin and a few others and they're all pretty good blues
releases. I also like Mike Moran and the Crawl; he's got a real
gritty barband sound.
Of course, ignore the above if you're a "blues sux" person.

they promote Southern music - Blues, Soul, Rhythm and Blues
and zydeco.
They have discs by Bill Kirchen (see note in this month's
Guitar Player), as well as Ronny Earl, Earl King, Hubert Sumlin, and
Earl Hooker.
The prices for buying direct are 15.00/cd, plus shipping, so
it's probably not as cheap as other mail order.

| One of my work colleagues had a CD,"This Is Blacktop" that was a
sampler of the artistes on the label,like 2 tracks each by Snooks
Eaglin,Hubert Sumlin,Funderburgh etc,etc. Gave you a real good idea
of what was available. Some really good stuff on it,and not just for
bluesers. None of the music was over-produced,and all had a pretty much
open,live sound to them.
