3047.0. "More BALLS...... Less Twang!!!!!" by WOTVAX::FISHWICKJ () Tue Feb 28 1995 04:42
I've got a question for you boffins about pickups ,now I know
theres plenty of info on pickups in this conference ( I've read it all
). Anyway ,this is a dead specific question , here goes.
I've got a guitar that I'm trying to finish repairing ,the frets
are done ,as is the neck and the new body work finish.
The only thing left now are the pick-ups. Its a strat type guitar
with three single coils attached to the stratch plate with a five way
selector switch a volume and a tone pot.
Thing is only one of the single coils works and i'd like to give
the guitar more balls and less twang.......and dont really want to chop
up the stratch plate cos its an odd shape and I like it and therefore
I've bin thinkin about stacked humbuckers .Either all humbuckers or a
combination of singles and stacked .I'd like some idea of what kind of
sound I could acheive with your recommendations of pick-ups ,possitions
and specific brands .The sound I'm aiming for is more Les Paul than
fender ;also what kind of re-wiring will be necessary or can I just put
the humbuckers in the same possition on the circuit already wired up on
the guitar .
I know its alot to ask but this guitar plays like a dream and I'd
like it to sound like one too.....
Thanks in anticipation , J

3047.2 | Duncan Hot Rails | RICKS::CALCAGNI | Suddenly Very Trendy | Tue Feb 28 1995 08:06 | 6 |
| Try something like Duncan Hot Rails. These are side-by-side humbuckers
(not stacked) that fit into a normal Strat pickup slot with no
modification. They are about as hot a pickup as you can get in that
footprint and they have a big, fat, Gibson-y kinda sound.
