| Good damn question!
A buddy of mine just bought it... But he didn't buy the pickup for
it.
Can he use any ole MIDI pick up (recommendations), or does it have to
be the "GVOX Pickup and beltpack" ??

I am interested in hearing what strummed chords done by this baby look like.
If anyone has one could you strum some chords, save to a midi file and
post somewhere?
Thanks in advance,
Bob

3031.3 | Where can u test drive G Vox ? | CRONIC::PCUMMINGS | What They Did | Tue Sep 12 1995 20:37 | 13 |
| I saw the GVox hw/sw package at PU Wurlitzer in Framingham MA a few
weeks ago. It was about $300. Unfortunately, they had no system to
try it out on! How do they expect to sell 'em like that ? I heard
that Berklee evaluated these but don't endorse them.
I'd be real interested in the real time notating piece... putting
the notes on the stave as you play! Sounds incredible, but can it
handle swing eighths ?!
I'd love to try one of these.

There really hasn't been alot of activity in regards to guitar notation
software recently. So what's the scoop on this? Is this G-Vox the
industry's cutting edge now? How well does it track? What's up with
the MIDI pickup?
These questions aren't necessarily aimed at this G-Vox package, but
to any and all guitar software pragrams. Dosen't Roland make a MIDI
pickup? Would the installation of such a pickup allow the guitar to
"communicate" with other notational things like Cakewalk, etc.?
All I know is that a friend of mine runs Cakewalk and through his
wind synthesizer, has supreme command of everything, from MIDI drums,
bass..you name it, all perfectly notated. Quite a powerful deal when
you think about it.
So how can a guitar player tap into this? (Don't know a whole hell
of alot here, so excuse my ignorance).

| My understanding of this thing is that its meant mainly as an
instructional device with some utility for "transcription" (entering
notes into transcription software) as well.
I don't think it's intended as a performance MIDI adapter but...
I know of no one who has even used much less bought one of these
things. The entry price is pretty high.
Of course, my main interest in it was the fact that there are several
Steve Morse lessons available for it.

Yeah the emotive one teaches "How to play music more powerful than

| Funny you should say that... wanna know what CD I put on when I'm
having trouble sleeping (and I kid you not):
"The Wind and The Wheat" by Phil Keaggy
But... I don't mean that as an insult to PK. I just find it very
relaxing and it helps me sleep.
Steve Morse is what I put on before important volleyball games to get
my adrenaline up.

So I take it that there isn't a means to which an electric guitar
can notate in real time on the computer. (??)

| Kev,
MIDI is MIDI. Any MIDI pickup will notate to (just about) any
MIDI computer based Sequencer... I don't know about the GVOX software,
but if you can generate MIDI, and the software you run supports
notation, you'll be all set.
