3026.0. "Craig Chaquico" by STRATA::LUCHT (Spinner-induced stacking bites) Thu Jan 12 1995 22:52

Remember Craig Chaquico, guitarist for Jefferson Starship
and Starship? Well, acting on some pretty decent reviews from
some friends as well as some excellent reviews in some music
rags, I picked up his "Acoustic Highway" CD.
This one's an all-instrumental recording of his own
ambient, or New Age, concepts. His tone is VERY processed, so
if you're not into that sort of vibe, my suggestion is to avoid
it. However, this type of stuff is right up my alley and I
haven't taken it out of my CD player since I got it. Usually
with CD's of this nature, the tunes get thin quick. But I gotta
say that I can easily listen to "Acoustic Highway" in it's
entirety without losing interest. Excellent production-thumbs up!
I heard that this one (or perhaps a follow-up CD, not sure) just
knocked Yanni's live one out of first place in the New Age
    department.

Oh, his *new* CD entitled "Acoustic Planet" is the one
that threw Yanni's live one off the 25+ week pedestal. I
    haven't heard it, yet...

I picked up "Acoustic Planet" the other night and have listened to it a
couple of times. I think this is great background music, I'm not sure
about just sitting and listening to it. Like a lot of New Age stuff,
it's just a bit too mellow for my tastes. However, it is well produced
and the musicianship is very good. It just doesn't really grab me,
though. One interesting note, I really liked the over-processed guitar
sound. I take it he used that Washburn (which he is holding on the
cover) for most of the lead work. It's hard to explain, but it is a
very processed sound which has a woody (e.g. acoustic) feel to it.
Very nice sound. It also stated in the liner notes that he used a lot
of Carvin gear as well. I think this CD would be well received by
somone who is really into New Age music (like my brother who I think
    I'll send it to).
