Thanks to noter 2973, a Mr. Goodwin, for letting remember a truly great
experience I had during the "Summer of 69"

Back in "1969" I had the chance to see BB King at Boise state, Joe
Walsh opened for him. Well, from the time Joe started walking on stage
you could tell they were going to BLOW! the walls out. The amps were
squeling and poppin and the band had not even started yet. It looked
like JiMi'es wall of amps. Joe comes over to the mike yells block your
ears, hits the first cord to "FUNK 49" and every thing is dead silence,
he, Joe, blew every tube in his bank of amps. After about 10 minutes
of talking things out Mr. King himself pushed out a Fender Bassman amp
and said here you go Mr. Walsh. Joe, with that little amp, blew my ears
out. I moved all the way to the back of the hall and still my ears
    hurt.

Now you've gone in done it Mr. Goodwin no work from me today just day
    dreaming.

| | I don't think the amps had much to do with your ears getting
blown out, as there is no guitar amp in the world that can
compete with what a well placed mic and 10Kwatts of PA can
    do. :-) A Bassman (I think) is pretty low-power - 40wts
    maybe??

| | I thought Mr. BB King always played Twins, even back then. A Twin'll
get pretty loud (not to mention heavy)!

Ah, but they get heavier as the person carrying them gets older. :-)

Early James Gang was great stuff. "Walk Away," "Fred"...I never
thought of Joe as a shredder, but more as a groove master.

| | No, Twins DEFINITELY get heavier! Have you ever tried to carry one any
distance? You start out thinking "Oh, this isn't _that_ bad", but with
each step, the thing grows both in weight and bulk. Better hope you
    parked close...

Actually, I think B.B. King's amp of preference is a Lab Series.
Can't remember which model (at least according to an interview in
GP a year or so ago). He uses Twins when he is working with a
provided amp and a Lab Series is not available.

Anyone ever listen to the "Barnstorm" LP? The solo effort that came
    out just before "The smoker...".

| | Yeah, I was going to ask if folks were into Barnstorm too. This was
    Joe's first post-James Gang release, I believe. Joe's songwriting
style really starts to shine through here, and there's some interesting
use of synths at a time when few were doing it well. No big hits,
which is probably why it's somewhat neglected. Too bad, it's a
    great record.

| | Actually "Turn to Stone" was first recorded on the barnstorm album and then
a lesser version (IMHO) was later released and it had some airplay...
barnstorm is probably still my favorite non-james-gang joe Walsh album

| | Not so strange ... I used to talk to Ronnie Milsap on
75 meters back in the mid 80's. He eventually quit dropping
by the frequency where we hung out. I always assumed it was
becuase he got tired of all the goofballs who insisted on
him saying hello to their daughters on the air. It got
pretty silly a few times. I felt sorry for him ... made
it impossible for him to enjoy the hobby and just be one
    of the guys.

I don't remember Joe's call sign, but he is definately an
    FCC licensed Amateur Radio Operator.

| | He's definitely a ham radio operator, as is one of the players from
.38 special (don't remember his name or call).

I'll try to remember to look up Joe Walsh on the CD ROM call book, one
can search for any paramater (name, address, etc...)
