2957.0. "Fretlight Optical Guitars" by CAPNET::ANDERSON_R () Wed Jul 27 1994 10:24

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with the Fretlight
guitar. Does it reinforce or enhance learning your way around the
    fretboard?

Guitar Player reviewed it about 2 years ago. They said it was
a very good guitar, not even considering the opticals.

Personally, I'd think dial-a-mode would really free a person from
scale type playing. Just hit any light, anwhere...

Must look cool on stage too!

Just started playing myself @ age 35 and sent for the FREE Fretlight
video from Optec. They only sell direct now @ $499 a pop. If anyone
is interested in the video I'll send it to them. Just send me an
    address.

Does anyone know where I can get one? It just got a great review in the
    latest issue of Guitar World.

    Thanks,

I just saw something last week on this guitar, but it wasn't clear
how it helped you learn to play. When the reporter was playing
the thing, it looked as if all the lights were on at the same time,
so that didn't look too helpful.

Did he not cycle through a couple display modes that would have
shown blinking lights for the next note to hit, or maybe a series
of lights lit to show you the particular notes that should be hit
in order to play a specific scale?
