2933.0. "Help! Chords to 'There is Love'" by CAPNET::PLOURDE (Hosanna in the Highest!) Fri May 20 1994 09:40

    Howdy,

My wife was asked to sing 'There is Love' at her brothers wedding. I
was asked to accompany her with my accoustic. I was given the 'words'
to the song, and I guess I could figure out chords. But to save myself
time and probably most of you have played it before at some time you
may know them. I played around with song last night and put it in the key of
    G. Do any of you know the chords to this song? Any help with this
    piece would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    	Richard

The song is actually called "The Wedding Song" and you can find it in
the book "Rise Up Singing", available at most book stores.

    Richard,

I have the sheet music at home, and will try to remember to bring it in
(unless somebody else gets to it first).

If I recall, I think the one I have is written in the key of E.

The Chords make the song, so I'd say it's worth the effort to
    get the right ones.

It's in E, but it's not your STANDARD E chord fomration that
starts it.. Also there's quite a bit of decending notation
going on.... I'm not sure how to identify the chords, but
I know the tune cold..

a quick listen would help you find the notes if your ear
is o.k.

Nice song for weddings.....I did it in A at my wedding, with my
daughters singing (a beautifu trio including my stepdaughter....Alan
was NOT there). I used some neat chord voicings that let the high E
string ring open throughout....in any key it's a beautiful tune with the
right chord voices and the right singer....

    Enjoy!

I worked it out for a friend who played it at our wedding about a
thousand or so years ago. The way Paul Stookey plays it, it's in a
different tuning; it may be DADGAD, but it's been too long to remember.
I'm almost sure that the top two strings are dropped a step (as in "two
    frets").

Come to think of it, I remember the opening part, or at least this is
pretty close. Do four bars of this first measure as intro, then use it
as the first measure of the verse, then continue...

I'm with Buck on this one. That song drips so much schmaltz that you
have to wear boots while playing it (and I've played it way too many times).

I was forced to back someone up on that song at a wedding at
Concord's Old North Bridge some years back (there's something about
a wedding at the site of the start of a major war that strikes me as
odd, somehow). "Forced" in that I was helping out a friend who was
playing for the wedding, and the bride and groom specified the song
as one they wanted. I convinced them to let us also do U. Utah
Philips' "Hymn Song", which I always thought was a much better song
    for the occasion.

    (Chorus goes
I believe if I lived my life again
I'd still be here with you	x2 )

Assuming you're referring to the chords in .16, they're also rather
incorrect.
