2916.0. "YAMAHA FX550" by DECPRG::MARSHALL () Tue Apr 19 1994 08:57
I have read the entries (1541 I think) on the Yamaha FX500 and having
just purchased an FX550 I would like to know if anyone else has used
this unit. I am extremely impressed with the sounds I can get from the
unit and how easy it is to use.
The overdrives (valve and normal) and Marshall speaker emulations are
excellent allowing a nice 'throaty' sound even at low volumes.
Individual patch volume is programmable and the overall volume can be
controlled using a midi pedal if necessary which I presume is different
to the 500 going by the correspondance.
About 25 of the 50 presets are usable ( On some you have to adjust the
delay and chorus settings to a sensible value!) There are 50 user presets
also.
The rotary speaker modulator gives a nice tone to chords and 'acoustic'
work.
In the UK the FX550 + midi floor switching unit cost me 450 USD which I
thought was a pretty good deal.
Anyone else got this unit? Got any reccomendations/experiences or any of
those tips which don't appear in the manual!?
Regards
Don
