2882.0. "New Vintage Magazine" by COMET::MESSAGE (My name is Bill & I'm a head case...) Mon Jan 31 1994 09:18

I just got a copy of the Guitar Player special magazine that has great
photo layouts of vintage gear. The name currently escapes me, but it
has an incredible '58 Les Paul cherry sunburst and an L5(?) on the
    front cover.

Anyway, GP has decided that this is going to be a 6-times-a-year
publication. I intend to get at least the first six, just for the
pix-the rigs they're showing are INCREDIBLE! Like, a Firebird VII,
with just a little crust on the gold plated hardware, a perfect
Guild 6120 hollow-body, and on, and on, ..........

By the way, there are many vintage dealers that advertise in this
magazine. I was SHOCKED to learn that '58-'60 Les Paul Sunbursts are
currently going for a MINIMUM 0f $25,000.00!!! That is NOT a typo,
folks, 25 thousand dollars minimum! A Firebird VII was advertised for
$7,500.00, '64 Strats in the same (pricey) neighborhood.

Anyway, this is a great dremin' for the future mag..............

Kinda makes you wish you'd grabbed a couple back in the 70's, when
they were ONLY about $2k, eh?

Look close at the Firebird VII btw, it's an ultra-rare original cherry
    finish, although fairly faded.

2882.3Les paul t.v. modelSPESHR::WAIBLEMon Jan 31 1994 14:5110
I have an old LES PAul t.v. model ( hope that isnt from the 'sweet
    transvestite' tour!!)
It has the old large head stock and orignal pick ups needs
quite a bit of cosmetic work snf unfortuantley the original finish has
been removed. But the guitar is at least an early 70's model and the
original decals on the headstock. Anybody ever hear of it or know how
    much it might be worth?

    						thanks - Fred

I looked; the title of the magazine is "Vintage Gallery". GP had
recently (late last year) published a supposed one-time magazine,
called "Vintage Guitar Gallery". They stated in this, the first issue,
that response was so great, they'd start this series.

Re.: "Working musician" vs "collector" - well, that may be true.
However, I just like to be able to appreciate the beauty of the
instruments. I probably will not own a Lambourghini, either, but I
*can* appreciate one for its beauty and engineering.

Gibson didn't make Les Paul T.V models in the early '70's--they were
made from about 1954 to about 1960. One in good condition can fetch
$1500-$2000, but without the original finish, probably half of that or
    less.

Note 1092 has more info on Les Paul models
