The Blue Book of Gun Values, now in its' 14th publishing, has
become the standard for pricing within the gun biz. They are,
of course, careful to point out that the prices given are averages
and may not reflect regional differences, but they are pretty
accurate overall. Gun collectors trade equipment as much or more
than musicians and it is very convenient to be able to turn to
the proper page in the (very well organized) Blue Book and find
out if you're about to pay too much for an item as well as to get
an idea of which features make specific models more or less
desireable.
The publisher of the Blue Book, Steve Fjested (sp?) built his
database the hard way...by attending gun shows and by networking
with prominent collectors. I would have every expectation that
his guitar book would be as well documented. Matter of fact, he
generally publishes a telephone number to call if you see some-
thing in his book that you take issue with or if you have better
information. He is very approachable that way.
I've often thought that something like this is long overdue in
the guitar world. All media-induced paranioa aside, guns are
bought, sold and traded by avid collectors the same way the guitars
are. What some folks consider tools, others consider commodities.
And having an easily-accesed point of reference helps stabilize
prices for both buyers and sellers.

| Thanks for the info, Alan - I just ordered it, second day
delivery, and if there's any interest, I'll review it in here
when I have a chance to go through it.
