Hmm - I just heard on CNN that Albert Collins died yesterday
after a long bout with cancer. Bummer. :-(

Yeah, I heard the same thing on "Headline News" friday night...
just caught the tail end of the report.
Sad to see him go. We were lucky that he left us a body of such
good work. And he was lucky enough to have garnered the attention
and respect he deserved; so many artists have left us only to gain
"success" after their deaths.
I saw Albert once, about 8 years ago. He was hot. Well, maybe he'd
appreciate it more if I said he was ice cold... anyway, it was a good
show. Wish I'd been able to see him again.
It strikes me that one day in the not too distant future, all of
the great "first-generation" blues artists will have gone their way.
So many of the greats are gone... Muddy, Freddie King, Howlin' Wolf,
just to name a few; recently we lost Albert King... it's hard for me
to imagine a world without B.B. King or John Lee Hooker.
I never knew ya, Albert, but I'll sure miss ya... everytime I
pick up a Tele, I've always thought of you.
Goodbye, Iceman.

He lived in Las Vegas the last few years of his life and I was out
there last week. There was a nice article about him in the paper there
right after his death.
I still remember seeing him on some TV show just a few months ago
blowing the doors off poor Jeff Beck (who seemed completely out of his
element).

Albert's demise was actually mentioned as a final item on BBC news here
in the UK.
This might not appear to mean much, but it possibly reflects the
current interest that there is in the Blues.
