I've pretty much got my heart set on getting a Fender Strat. I played
a new American Standard, and a new American Deluxe Plus (or some
collection of similar names). The Deluxe is the Standard with
Lace sensor pickups, locking machine heads, plus...
Now the questions fly:
* What's the going rate on a used Strat?
* I know old Strats are covetted but are there any particular
years/model styles to avoid?
* Not that it's a big issue, but are the new strats considered
a good investment?
* Anyone have any pros and cons on the Lace Sensor Pickups?
* Is the American Deluxe Plus... a significant gain over the
American?? The price difference I saw was about $150.00.
* Does anyone know going prices for the American and Deluxe?
Today I saw the Standard for $629.00 w/ hardcase and NO tax;
The Deluxe was $769.00 w/same.
I also picked up a Hecho en Mexico Strat which did not feel nearly
as good as the American model. Does anyone have any opinions on the
Mexican and Japanese variations???

I picked up a brand new American Standard strat for $510 over the
weekend at House of Guitars in Rochester, NY. Many of the used (early
80's to present) guitars sell for about $400. Most music stores I've
been to ask $600 - $650 for an Am. Std.
And yes - I love it!!!

I bought a Strat Plus Deluxe last weekend for $750.00 at Alan's
Discount Music in Birmingham, Alabama. The best price I was quoted in
the New Orleans area was $700.00 for a Strat Plus (dark wine body).Most
of the New Orleans area stores were out of Plus models. The Deluxe
sounded much better to me than the Plus through the same amp (Princeton
Chorus).
