I'd like to start a topic on Fender Acoustic guitars. Yesterday, one of the kids in my son's band showed up with a borrowed Fender acoustic; flat top, round hole, active pu, with three knobs, a rather curious headstock, not like a strat, the end has an "S" curve to it, 3 pegs on each side. Nicely finished, in excellent shape. Any idea what model it is or how much it's worth? Carl

Fender made a "Coranado" series around the late '60's which included 6 & 12 stringed models as well as a hollow body bass. They also recently started making acoustics w/built-in pick ups. I just saw them in a catalog I believe it was "Musician's Friend" mail order. A little more info like knob colors, lettering, & any hints to the vintage would be helpful. -Paul

It disappeared, but will likely resurface, and I'll try to get a better look at it. It was in a hard shell case that was a little dinged up. Oh yeah, it was single cutaway. I don't think it's a Coranado, as I recall, weren't Coro's made with wood that had dye injected into it or something? Also, weren't Coro's thin, primarily meant for electric use? This one is fat, meant for primarily for acoustic use. It has a battery clip inside, gotta loosen the strings to change it. It could be new or old...the serial number is on a label inside, I'll try to get it, next time the guit shows up. The knobs are on the top edge, like, say, an ovation. I believe one of them was some type of eq. The kids said it fed back like crazy when they ran it through the Peavy tube preamp Crunch box. ;-) ;-). Definitley not intended for H-M. Carl

>...wood with dye injected into it... Methinks that series was called "Wildwood", although it's possible the two entities ovarlapped. ("I want a Coronado with the blue Wild- wood option...") I remember this from an old Fender catalog circa late '60's, the only one I ever had. Edd

I think I had that catalog, too! The only one *I* ever had... Was this the only one Fender ever published?? ;-) ;-) Carl

Interesting. In 1975 I bought an Ibanez Concord 12 string which was a Fender look alike (you know, hocket stick neck etc.). Richard |
