2661.0. "ENGL Amplification" by FDCV09::GOODWIN () Fri Jan 15 1993 10:34

    Any one have the low-down on these German made all-tube rack mount pre-
    and power amps? I think they make a 100W combo & head also.

    The marketing hype makes them sound hot - I wonder if they really are.

    Sometimes noter Kaz Nagahashi has one of their preamps. From the
    sounds on a tape he sent me awhile back, I'd say it sounded excellent!
    Perhaps he'll see this and tell us more about it.

    Well, Guitar Player had troubles with BOTH copies of their Engl
    "Straight" when they tested it for their 100 Watt Combo Shootout. Got a
    poor grade as a result.

       The ENGL has been around awhile. I remember seeing an ENGL
    "Straight" combo amp back when I was buying KittyHawks.
       No doubt the biggest name user is George Lynch. Maybe he knows
    how to dial in the sound or had his modified.

    ENGL goes way back, they had MIDI-programmable amps a number of years
    ago (these were tube units with presets you could call up). They have
    never had a large distributor handling them, which is the usual way a
    foreign built amp line makes it in the US.
