Hi folks ! Well, I got the package ! Being here for two more weeks, I may use the time to get some advice from the great folks in this notesfile, how to spend (at least some of) the money. Even though I haven't met anyone (besides Nick Creasy in Reading), you've been very helpfull and inspiring !!!! Maybe this time too ? What guitar could you recommend that has the following features: - strat shape - HSS or HSH pickups (Humbuckers splittable !) - 24 frets (22 tolerated) - Wilkinson trem (don't like Floyd Rose trem) The Wilkinson trem is rather new, I remember only one guitar that has one. It is a Hohner, which looks ugly. Any input welcome !!! best regards

I'm not sure what trem they come with but for a 'super strat' how about checking out the Levinson Blades..*nice* guitars.. I believe they run at about 900 quid.... J (who doesn't even normally like strats.."

Richard, Good luck in the world outside the company.... hopefully our paths will cross sometime in the future. Since you mentioned my name in the base note, I couldn't resist giving an answer... ...I'd agree with Jason that you should look hard at a Levinson Blade. I've got an RH3, which is strat shape, HSS (humbucker splittable). It's an excellent guitar, which I would recommend to anyone. It has a 22-fret neck (I think :^), and a tremolo that stays in tune, but is nothing like a Floyd Rose (which I can't stand...). Prices in Germany will probably be fairly high - in the UK, the cost of an RH3 is around 700, but I paid 550 for mine in a sale... Nick

Check out a stienberger for a good guitar with a fine tremelo (trans-trem). I prefer the GM models with the wood bodies to the other thing with a graphite body (I think). Since I've gotten mine my other guitars are dust collectors. dbii ps: good luck outside

Hi folks ! Thanks for good wishes.... When testing the SGX at the dealer, he gave me a Godin guitar, which comes close to what I asked for in .0. It even has 3 humbuckers which are all splittable. Of course, I checked out the trem extensively. It's a real locking trem. If not used, it's locked automatically. If you grab the bar, it's unlocked. However, as soon as it is unlocked, there is some tension on the trem and hence on the strings. The salesman said, it could be adjusted to reduce the effect, but not avoid it completely. Also, the bending up is only one half semitone. I didn't like the setup of the strings, too high. It may be possible to adjust it, but bending up will get the strings down, so there is natural limit. Is it a limitation of trems in general or just this implementation ? Confused.... Richard |
