2576.0. "Michael Landau" by COPCLU::SANDGREN (Keep it simple) Thu Aug 27 1992 03:19

Couldn't find an entry about Michael Landau, so here's one!

He is not much of a star in 'public', but I recognize an ab-
solute maestro when I hear one...sure he has absolute taste-
ful licks and whatta *sound* man...

One reason that he's not that well known, might be the fact,
that he hasn't made any solo recordings (or has he?). His
playing only shines through on occasion on other artists' re-
cords, as 'fill-ins', or as short, effective solos. And bet
	they are effective!

Best performance I've heard from him is on Helen Watson: 'Blue
Slipper' (where he gets more space than most of the other re-
cordings I've heard). Other recordings are with 10CC: 'Mean-
while' (very nice, good songs), James Taylor and Wilson Phil-
	lips (ack!)..

Talk about a versatile player! I've heard him play anything
from the softest country to the hardest rock, and always so
very well adjusting to the style...

Anybody know about solo recordings? Equipment? I'd pay mega-
bucks for getting his sound :-)...

	Poul

    	10cc - "meanwhile" ???

    	what's this? I've not seen a 10cc album in at least 6 or 7
years! Eric went with Paul McCartney for awhile and Graham
was with Andrew Gold as Wax.

Sorry to digress from Michael Landau. I agree that his stuff
is really good. Pretty sure I've heard him with Richard Marx,
Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan (Edd ??), maybe the Tubes...

2576.2and now whattabout Michael Landau ;^)COPCLU::SANDGRENKeep it simpleThu Aug 27 1992 08:167

'Meanwhile' is a 1992 recording, and it IS *very* good, IMO. It fea-
tures Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman as composers, AND Lol Creme
and ? (whats his name) as singers == the original 10CC setup. The
new songs are really nice, quiet ones, with some of the gold old
    10CC feeling.

Kevin Godley - by the way, Lol and Kevin produced the latest
U2 video where they spin around.

Again, sorry for digressing. But thanks!!!!!!!

Mike Landau was also on Joni Mitchell's 'Wild Things Run Fast' and John
Hiatt's 'Stolen Moments' LPs. Very good player. His contribution to JT's
    current offerings is exceptional.

Mike Landau and Steve Lukather are both proud owners of Bob Bradshaw
rack mounted effects....and I mean huge racks..ie plenty of bucks
worth...it's simple if you want that Landau sound which I admit makes
me drool,be prepared to part with a few grand!

    Cheers Dieter.
