2552.0. "Steve Vai guitar sound ?" by CSC32::J_KUHN (There's a fog upon LA) Fri Jul 10 1992 11:13

I am a real novice in the guitar effects world.
I recently heard Steve Vai's Passion and Warfare. On the third track
he gets this great sound, its like a growling sound. I've also heard
this on the first side of the Shutup and Play yer guitar by Zappa.
Is it a harmonizer? Its a great sound. Sure I play folk music, but
I'll find a way to tastefully work it in to Puff The Magic Dragon
once I find out what it is. :-)

I am being vague, but if you've heard the track, you will know what
    I am talking about.

"The Animal" is track 3. Steve never leaves home without his Eventide
H3000+, but I bet his extra B string in the bass helps (uses a 7 string
    Ibanez).

Is this one of those "if you have to ask about the effect, you can't
afford it" kinda things? Its a great effect though. maybe they will
come out with a home version. :-)

Or the "Ultra Harmonizer" either. That'd be the ultimate toy !

FWIW - I think they go for about $3500 (Stripped).

Definately no home version on the horizon...But if TC can make stomps,
the Eventide should be able to also...

Nah, I have a catalog here with it for $2195.

If it's the song I'm thinking about, the sound you're hearing is
probably a pick slide on his low B string, possibly with it lowered
even further with the whammy bar.
