It has been a long time, but this should get you in the ball park.
The original guitars may be capoed up a few frets.

(repeat)
CHORUS:
D G D

Teach Your Children
Graham Nash
@ BROKEN BIRD MUSIC on Crosby, Stills, Nash "Deja Vu"
You who are on the road
Must have a code that you can live by
And so, become yourself
Because the past is just a goodbye
C F / C G ://
Teach you children well
Their father's hell did slowly go by
And, feed them on your dreams
The one they pick's the one you'll know by
And don't ever ask them why - if the tell you,
You'll just cry so, just look at them and sigh
And know they love you
C F / C G :// C F / C Am / FG C /
And you, of tender years
Can't know the fears that your elders grew by
And so, please help them with your years
They seek the truth before they can die
Teach your parents well
Their children's hell did slowly go by...

| The chords from the previous notes look pretty much right. Here's the
words, as sung on the album. There are a few differences between these
and the ones posted in a previous note, plus I've included the harmony
verse sung under the second verse. By the way, I'm terrible at
punctuating song lyrics, but the words are where they belong.
By the way, one thing I like to do is throw in an Ab when moving
from the G to the A at the end of the Chorus. I also like to throw
in a F# base note when moving from the D to the G in the instrumental
chords after the Chorus.

Teach Your Children
You, who are on the road, must have a code, that you can live by
And so, become yourself, because the past is just a goodbye
Teach your children well, their fathers hell did slowly go by
And feed them on your dreams, the ones they picked,
the ones you'll know by
Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you you would cry
So just look at them and sigh, and know they love you
And you of tender years can't know the fears that your elders grew by
And so please help them with your youth,
they seek the truth, before they can die
(harmony sung underneath the above verse)
Can you hear and do you care. Do you see they must be free to
Teach your children you believe they'll
make a world that we can live in
Teach your perents well, their childrens hell will slowly go by
And feed them on your dreams the ones they picked,
the ones you'll know
Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you you would cry
So just look at them and sigh, and know they love you

Thank you so much for this! This has been driving me crazy for years.
That first line - I never could hear it right on my scratchy old
record.
Thanks,
Justine

THANKS to all of you who offered your help through EMAIL and FAXes!
A friend and I have worked up an arrangement (based on the sheet
music) for guitar, fiddle, and two voices that works pretty well.
Have a GREAT one!
