| In addition to the two items listed in the base note, I still have:
A six string solid Gibson steel guitar, circa about 1950.
A Harmony mandolin purchased from Sears late 1940's.
A Vega tenor banjo at least 45 years old.
A Masco reel to reel tape recorder bought in 1953. It also has a built
in AM radio. We used to record shows on this and the local radio
stations would play the tapes.
My first musical equipment was a Rex solid steel guitar and a noname
three tube amplifier.
I still laugh/cringe about my first lead guitar. It was Sear's best
Kay model. A beautiful blonde archtop with lots of ivory. We were
loading the gear into the trunk of my car preparing for a gig. Forgot
to put the guitar in and backed right over it. Collected on the car
insurance but I was devastated.

| RE:.15: 1939 Martin D-28 (been played - lots - but a cannon)
'39 may be the best year for Martin guitars. Everything but the low end was
Brazillian rosewood. All guitars were using the "advanced" bracing (something
they only did for a couple of years) that resulted in guitars with big voices.
Diamond and squares inlay and herringbone trim for D-28s and Snowflake inlay
and the abalone inlay on all the edges for D-45's - all with elephant ivory
nuts and saddles - as *standard* equipment. Not a bad ax. Wish I had one.

it last year. The company went chapter 11 in the early 80's so there
was no way to get parts. I got tired of carving them out of blocks
of aluminum. Got myself a "classic" Emmons twin neck now.
Sometimes getting rid of the old stuff is good, very

Started playing at the age of 13, and went out and bought myself,
a small "FENDER HARVARD" amplifier which I believe has 'bout 35 Watts?
It has a 10" speaker and the TWEED type of exterior.
A great little amp and consider it to be priceless!
Tried getting new tubes for it a few years ago with no success!
Think I'll keep it for life and pass it on.........

Hey Norm - did that amp use 6SN7 preamp tubes? Neal Orsi knows
how to get 'em.
Groove Tubes makes adapters for running 12AT7s in sockets for
6SN7 and 6SJ7s.
|
2513.53 | re .51 | RANGER::WEBER | | Fri May 28 1993 08:01 | 10 |
| Norm, your Harvard is older than you think, since these were only made
until 1960 or so.
All the tubes should be readily available, except for the 6AT6, which
is probably non-existent ;-)
I'd be really surprised if a Harvard could put out 35 watts--probably
more like 20, but it's still a great little amp.
