2474.0. "Charlie Parker,. OK so he doesn't play guitar :-)" by STAR::SALKEWICZ (It missed... therefore, I am ) Fri Mar 13 1992 13:49

Guitar players are boring (who said that?)

So I'm trying to find this recording of Charlie Parker supposedly
titled "Birdland". Do any of you jazz eficianados know whether
thats is a correct title? And if so,. what label might I find
this recording (hopefully re-released on CD) on?

    Any help appreciated

in London I found a cassette with Parker playing at Birdland.
Basically, low quality radio recordings (circ 1950-52) as a welcome
back after he had been banned from the place. Last performance at
Birdland by Bird. Lousy sound, great playing! I'll try to remember
    and look for it tonight.

I realize the question's about 3 weeks old but, FWIW, found the
following in the Schwann catalog. It probably matches what .-1
describes (including the sound & performance). Certainly Bird was still
    flying in '50...

CHARLIE PARKER: Live at Birdland: Feb. 14, 1950.
w/ Red Rodney, JJ Johnson, Al Hiag, Tommy Potter, Roy Haynes.
EPM FDC-5710 (mono, AAD). [CD only.]

EPM is a European label (I forget - maybe Austrian?), but it's
distributed in the US by Qualiton Imports, and shouldn't be too hard to
find in a big store (e.g. Tower) or jazz-specialty store. - Jay

    Jay,..

The note is a bit old,.. but I still hadn't found the thing (kind
of gave up the search for a while there),..

But with this new info, should be much easier to find. Thanks!
