2468.0. "Ramirez classical, mkt. value..." by FRUST::HAMILTON () Tue Mar 10 1992 07:27

I have a Ramirez classical guitar, model 1a that I would
be interested in having appraised. I will eventually will
be wanting to sell it to somebody who will really use it
as it was intended to be used. It has been sitting in its
case for 10 years. I originally bought it in 1978 when
I was in music school, the guitar itself was built in 1977

Does anybody know about the model hierarchy produced by
this company? I've heard that there are student models
and regular models, some series are better than others,
some are hand made some are not etc.

This instrument was played by Michael Lorimer 1978 and
he said it was one of the best Ramirez instruments he
had ever heard or played.

The label has a light blue border which I have been told
is significant. The model number 1a is stamped on the
label as well.

Any info in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

From what I can see from my catalogs:

Studio guitars
 1= mahogony
 2= Indian rosewood
 3, 4 and 5= Indian rosewood with professional bracing

Professional guitars
 E= student guitar
 C= classical
 F= flamenco
 A= Alemam (German spruce top)
 P= Indian rosewook on flamenco guitars
 Z= lefty

So ... I would say you might have a student's studio guitar with a German
spruce top. Last year, Mandolin Bros. were selling these for $1024. Hope
this helps.

2468.3Doesn't sound like my Guitar...FRUST::HAMILTONWed Mar 11 1992 05:4912
Thanks for your replies. My guitar cost $1000 in 1978
and it also doesn't fit the description in .1. It has
rosewood sides & back and a cedar top. Sounds like this is
going to be a bit more complicated than I thought.

The Frankfurt Music Trade Fair (the biggest of its kind
in the world I've been told) starts today. Maybe I'll
stop by and pay the Ramirez people a visit...

Also, can you give me the Mandolin Bro's address &
phone no. - I'll be in the Boston area in April. May-
be I'll take it along and try and sell it there.

They sell stuff on consignment too.
I note that they had a used Ramirez 1E for $925.
