2402.0. "Vince Gill" by LEDS::BURATI (Spanish Castle Magic) Thu Dec 12 1991 17:49

    Hey, anybody that plays like this guy deserves his own note. Style,
    speed (when it's called for) and finesse. I've most recently caught him
    on the TNN channel's American Music Shop (great show) with Albert Lee
    sitting in. Sorry Albert, Vince's solos stole the freakin' show! YEEEOW!

    Anyone know this guy's albums? I wanna buy one or two (or three).

    And he can SING, too!

2402.1Gotta love hot country pickers.IBIS::JERRYWHITEHey you're pretty good - NOT !Fri Dec 13 1991 08:125
    He's awesome ! I saw those same shows. Albert's hot, but you almost
    expect that from him. Vince just lays back in the weeds (while he
    singing) and then knocks your socks off, with *no* effort at all.

    	Couldn't agree more - I saw it too! Isn't he in Marc O'Connor's
    	new "pick up" band? The CD is under Marc's name.

    	Great clean sound and tons of tasty passing tones. Almost like
    	a banjo style to me. And, yes, he's known as a singer.

    	... ah, just hit me, it's the New Nashville Cats, yes?

    I met him while he was in Pure Praire League at a concert I was working
    back in college. He's a super guy... as a matter of fact they were all
    good people. I wonder how many folks know that band was started by a
    couple of guys from Sag Harbor, Long Island.

    Guy's a super picker to say the least!

2402.5Vince Gill :== HOTHOTHOT!WEDOIT::KELLYJMaster of rhythm, Phd in swingFri Dec 13 1991 11:1413
    The band I'm in plays a couple of his tunes: his *monster* hit _When
    I Call Your Name and a country rocker called _Liza Jane_. Took me a
    good three weeks of 1/2 speed tape listening to cop that solo, but's
    it's a gas to play.

    As for albums, Tom Desrochers named a good one: The New Nashville Cats
    which also has a couple of other reasonable pickers on it: Ricky
    Skaggs and Steve Wariner. Vince's album called _When I Call Your Name_
    has some good tunes. Hisd latest has Liza Jane, but I cannot recall
    the album name.

    BTW, his wife plays a pretty mean paisley Tele in her band, Sweethearts
    of the Rodeo.
2402.6Awsome pickerCSCOA1::JOHNSON_ROBMon Dec 16 1991 13:1411
    Isn't there a song on When I Call Your Name called Oklahoma Swing?
    Awsome picking. Another killer song is Oklahoma Border Line, don't
    know what its on.

    Also saw him on American Music Shop with Larry Carlton, bout 4 months
    ago, great show.

    I was begining to think there was no one out here that liked, much less
    played country music.
