2367.0. "dust off your fenders" by ANNECY::HUMAN (I came, I saw, I conked out) Wed Nov 06 1991 10:52

Hi,

I bought a great book when I was in England:

"The Ultimate Guitar Book" by Tony Bacon and Paul May

Publisher Dorling Kindersley , London, N.Y, 1991
ISBN 0 86318 640 8

All colour, loads of piccy's of legendary and curious guitars., some with
famous owners
Loads of info on construction, history, variations
Large section on Gibson, Fender, Rickenbacker

Underpriced @ 15.99

(no, I'm not getting a commision!)

The 2 authors are also writing a definitive book on Fender. They want to hear
from anyone who has:

Fender memorabilia; catalogues, price-lists etc
Visited the Fender factory in '50s-60s
Unusual or prototype guitars

They also want to photograph (preferably) all-original good-condition examples
of:

"Duo-Sonic" c'64-70 with both pickups angled
"Esprit" '84
"Flame" '84
"Lead" I, II, or II '79-82
"Montego" I or II '68-74
"Musicmaster" '75-80 22 frets, controls on scratchplate
"Mustang" '64-80 (preferably '64-65)
"Telecaster Deluxe" '73-82 2 humbuckers, Strat-style head
"Alex Gregory Stratocaster" '88 7 strings

All information is in strictest confidence, sop if you won one of Clapton's
that he sold in the 70's don't worry!

Rewards are:

Your guitar is featured in the book
You get a credit (if wanted)
You get a free copy

Address:

Tony Bacon and Paul Day (good job his name's not FRY!)

Let us know how you get on everyone

cheers, martin

I've been looking through this book when I visit bookstores here in New
England. I've seen copies in Several Waldenbooks and a Booksmith. I seem
to recall it being priced at about $30. Great -- I mean REALLY GREAT --
photos. Very impressive compilation of choice specimens. I'm definitely
going to buy it (or it's going on my Christmas list) while it's still
    avalable hard-bound.
