2352.0. "guitar and shop advice required in south UK" by COMICS::AUSTIN () Thu Oct 17 1991 10:40

Hello,

I am looking to buy a new/2nd hand guitar of reasonable quality. I have been
learning on a Kimbara, Japanese made, ply top guitar and am looking now to
move to something better.

I bought my present guitar 2nd hand and its served me well so far but I am now
noticing fret buzzing in well used positions when strings are struck firmly,
I only paid 50 pounds for it, and I presume refretting would be expensive
enough to not make it worthwhile on this guitar. Opinions?

Could someone recommend a good shop(s) that sell new/2nd hand classical guitars
in London or Basingstoke/Reading area.

Any recommendations for good makes or makes to avoid would be appreciated,
also what sort of starting price would you be looking at for solid top
guitars.

I'm new to this conference and enjoying the wealth of experience here.

Any help appreciated.

    	Hi Simon,

Try the Guitar Village at Farnham.....Kingfishers isn't bad....or
of you want some fun visit the Acoustic guitar department in Rose
Morris's in Denmark Street London...really helpfull, friendly and
he'll let you have a go on anything...(1300 hundred pounds worth of
Gibson acoustic last time I was there.....it was awfull by the
    way!)

Here's another thumbs up for Kingfisher music in Fleet. A great shop if
you don't mind driving a couple hundred miles (!) is LiveWire in Cardiff,
Wales. I know its a long drive, but I got a great deal on my Ibanez
there (and visted some friends at the same time 8^) ). To me it was
    worth the trip.
2352.3All that Poundage for 2nd hand?NEMAIL::LOUVATFri Oct 18 1991 13:1711
I was just flashing through the notes and ran across your request for
some second hand classicals....I'm sorry that I can't be of any assis-
tance to you, but when I saw that price tag of seemingly exorbidant
size I got to wondering what it translates to in American currency. You
did say 2nd hand did you not?
       I just bought a 2nd hand flat-top for $150.00 that is quite a nice
instument. It's an Ovation with a pickup in the saddle that really puts
out a nice accoustic sound thru a recording board. I guess it origion-
ally went for around $400. to $450. It does suit my purposes quite well
as I do my own multi-track things in my home....
       Just wondering.....................................................
2352.4need dealer info - Norwich areaRUTILE::COXTake the challenge to your heart.Mon Jul 13 1992 10:4918

I know it's an old note, but it seems an appropriate place for this :

I'm going to be in the UK in about two weeks time, but only for a
weekend. I'll be in Norwich almost all of that time visiting my folks,
but I'd really like to take the opportunity to buy an electric guitar
( considering Squire Strat ) and an amp. However, I don't know where I
might find a reasonable dealer with reasonable prices. ( I've looked
around here and been horrified by some of the price tags in Geneva -
some practice amps are _double_ the UK cost. I found that I could
have paid nearly 150 less in the UK for my keyboard ).

If any of you UK guys know any music/guitar shops in Norwich, I'd
appreciate an address and phone #. I'll even say you sent me ;-)

    thanks in advance & regards,

    					Nik.
