     Can someone in notesland fill me in on intervals ?
    for example with E as a root note, what are the 3rd, 5th, 7th
     9th and 11th notes ?
    
    3rd = G#
    4th = A
    5th = B
    7th = D
    9th = F#
    11th = A? (guessing)
    
    somebody help us out here.

    Interval is basically the space between two notes in a scale.  The
    numbers come from their placement in the scale:
    
    E  F# G# A  B  C# D# E  F# G#  A   B   C#  D#  E
    1  2  3  4  5  6  7  8  9  10  11  12  13  14  15
                         |  |  |   |   |   |   |   |
     compound interval = 1  2  3   4   5   6   7   8
    
    So, a Major 3rd interval is E & G#, or the distance of E to G#, 
    depening on the context of the term "interval" used.  
    
    The interval combination of 1, 3, 5    make up a Major Triad
    
    The interval combination of 1, 3, 5, 7 make up a Major 7th chord
