| | Most bizarre failure on a gig yet: the power switch wouldn't turn the
    power OFF.

I'm such a lucky guy, I have *never* had an amp die on me at a gig.
    Keeping my fingers crossed.....

P.S. Whatever happened to the days when schematics came with amps? I
have three old tube jobs with the schematic glued to the chassis, and a
newer amp that had the schematics printed in the manual (for
that matter, when was the last time you got a manual with an amp?).

Whoa! I detect some hostility toward Marshalls here. Let me put my
perspective in. It's worth about $.02 anyway.

Maybe NEW Marshalls are built well but my old one -- which in my opinion
is the best SOUNDING amp in the world -- was indeed unreliable. At least
compared to a Fender. Lots of mechanical -- some electric -- problems.
But not many amps ever compared favorably to a Fender in terms of
    mechanical and electrical integrity.
Anyway, the fact that I had a few problems was OK. I love it and always
have for its SOUND. Besides, the base note asked for a lot more than
Marshall schematics. Maybe the guy's interested learning about what
makes great SOUNDING amps great. Those are all classic units.
BTW, Back in the old days when your choice in PA power was between Altec
(tube), Bogen (tube), Dynaco (tube), Macintosh (tube), Harmon Kardin
(tube) and Crown (SS), Crown was the premiere power amp. The most power.
Solid state. Only one problem: They had a BIG reputation for going DC
and frying speakers by the $$$hundreds$$$. So reliability is not what
comes to my mind when you say Crown. But maybe it was all a vicious
    rumor.

| | I'm not hostile I just couldn't resist pointing out
that a marshall is just like any other amp and not
the super amp some folks would lead us to believe.
I have had only two amps in fourteen years and have
never needed any service on them at all.my first was
an acoustic 150b w/lifetime warrantee (not needed)
and my current set up is a P***** which some folks
take great pleasure in ridiculing however it always
works and does it well. I have no bad things to say
about marshallsjust the weenies who play them. :')
    (just kidding!)

Hey, I also rave up the Marshalls, but I also do it for the sound. I
could care less about the reliability since 1) I can afford to have it
fixed if it breaks, and 2) I rarely if ever play out anyway. I never
claimed they don't break (even though none of mine have, since having
the one I bought broken fixed).

You're a bass player, right? Note that you won't find any notes I've
written ragging on Peavey BASS or PA amps, just their guitar amps.
I've never heard a PV guitar amp they made that sounded good to my
ears. Maybe my ears are different then yours. Whatever, it's no big
deal to me. Also note that I've never raved up Marshall BASS amps, I
honestly don't recall ever having heard one...

I play a Marshall guitar amp because it sounds the best to my ear. I
*need* something that sounds great to cover up my crappy playing...

| | Keep cool men, and let's go back to my first topic.
I need all these schematics to design and build my final geetar tube preamp
gathering all these marvellous sounds in the same unit....
Perhaps that's sheem utopianism but try and listen.
My idea is all tube design with :
 Three channels (switchable).
 - 1st channel : British sound (Marshall & Vox). Gain, Volume (Gain switchable
for master/nomaster select). Bass/Mid/Treble with tone
controls AFTER last stage. (This unit needs 2x12AX7A)
 - 2nd channel : US sound (Fender). Gain, Volume. Bass/Mid/Treble with tone
controls between first and second stage. (This unit needs
                 2x7025)
 - 3rd channel : US sound (Boogie). Lead, Gain, Volume. Bass/Mid/Treble +
switchable 5 bands EQ (256/512/1k/2k/4kHz). (This unit needs
                 4x12AX7A)
I agree that this will look like a Boeing dashboard, but......
Any comments ?
