2262.1 | It was impressed .... big time ! | RAVEN1::JERRYWHITE | Rebel without applause ... | Mon Jul 15 1991 23:17 | 20 |
| I was in my local music store today, and got to listen to the new
Gibson bass rig ... 400W into a 1x15 cab and a 4x10 cab. I have never
been *so* impressed with a bass rig in my life !!! The guy was using
an Ibanez bass and a 20' cable, that's it. The salesman said the
owner's manual comes with a breakdown of the `frequencies' on the neck
of your guitar so if there's a dead spot, you'll know exactly where to
boost/cut the eq. It's got a herd of knobs, I really didn't notice too
much about that other than it has a built in compressor and parametric
eq. But, it's not a giveaway either .... she's listed for $2999 !
This new line of amps was suposedly designed in LA by top engineers AND
musicians in the area, with an astronmical budget. They are supposed
to be the cream of the crop (have we heard that before ?). They're
releasing a tube preamp for guitar (I think they said it'll have 3
channels, no midi ..) that will list for around a grand.
Anybody else got any info on these new Gibos ?

| For $3000 this rig should carry itself in, set itself up and buy a few
rounds of drinks for the band .... ;^)

the market cornered until I heard this guy ...
Anybody else heard one ?

2262.6 | GB-440 Bites The Dust | TECRUS::ROST | Clone *me*, Dr. Memory | Wed Feb 24 1993 10:26 | 17 |
| Here we are almost two years later.
The poop on the GB-440 bass head is that it appears to be a next
generation of the AMP 420 amplifier designed by Russ Allee (see note
104). A review of the GB-440 in Bass Player last year showed a pic and
I'll be damned if it doesn't look like an AMP head, even has the "tone
balance" control. Improvements/changes: the EQ sweep bands go much
higher (about 6K instead of 2K) and the two knob gain and limiter
controls have been combined so that the limiter kicks in automatically
once the gain knob gets above about one o'clock.
The bad news is that Gibson has discontinued this amp already. No
surprise, no MA area dealers took them on, I've never seen one. Talk
about marketing disasters. If it really is an AMP clone, then it
probably sounds great.

I'm not sure this is his amp, but The Tube Amp Book Vol I lists a
GA-35RVT Lancer w/Reverb and Tremolo,
1-7025, 2-6EU7, 2-12AU7, 1-7591 Duet, 1-0A2
I 'spose the easiest way is for him to look in the back.
Hope this helps

Does anyone care to guess about the value of
something like this?? Maybe Ty Tabor will
buy it off of him?? :-)
Thanks dood!

| Those Gibsons don't have a lot of value unless you hit some Gibson
collector who needs it big time. $150 unless it's mint or it's being
sold at Daddy's Junky 8^) 8^)

I have a '60 Tweed Gibson GA-20T Ranger with a 12" blueback Jensen
in nice shape and I'm looking for a schematic. It's had a couple of
minor repairs and I want to make sure everything is where it should be.
Sources anyone?

| Have you checked the GT Tube Amp Book, Vol III? There's a couple of
Gibson schematics in the back, and I think the GA-20 is one of them.

I have mine right here... All I could find is the GA-19RTV, then it goes
to GA-30... You could always call Groove Tubes. Aspen Pittman says they
have copies of schematics that weren't good enough to put in the book.

I've got both volumes I+III and no GA-20T schematic. Like /J says,
I can get one from GT if I send 'em a self addressed stamped
envelope.
Thanks

| could someone help me with a THIS DON'T MAKE SENSE PROBLEM!!!!!
I picked up a gibson "THOR" amp and there seems to be no way to

seems to be glued or something since it will not pull off.

| The grille is probably tacked or stapled down and you will have to do
some work to get to it. Hey, they figured the speakers will never blow!
Gee, I've seen pics of a Thor but never saw one in the flesh...how
much did it set you back?

if anybody knows anything or has anything about this amp, please let me
know since i did not get any prints, etc. with it.
thanks folksies
