Does anyone know what tuning Ry Cooder uses for the Blind Willie McTell song "Dark was the Night", on side 2 of the "Paris, Texas" soundtrack ? It doesn't sound like open D or E, but my ears lie quite often. A very nice piece of slide guitar... Pete.

Pete, I suspect it was in Open G tuning from memory. I'll have a listen tonight and see if I can figure it. You're right about it being a nice slide piece. See ya, Jeff | |||||

Nitpickin - It's actually based on the original by Blind Willie Johnson. Check out that original and you'll hear what makes Ry Cooder so great (he also plays Blind Blake material (arguably) as well as Blake). This then begs the question - if BW Johnson could not play BBlake tunes and BBlake could not play BWJ tunes, does this make Cooder better than both of them - combined :-) andy |
