2169.0. "Advice on selling a Guitar" by XANADU::GANAPATHI () Mon Apr 22 1991 11:59
Hi,
I'm in this conference for the first time, so if this is the wrong kind of
posting, I offer my apologies. But, I need help.
I have custody of a guitar from a friend who had to go back home (India) after
finishing his assignment here, and wanted me to try and sell his guitar for him.
Now, I'm very green about guitars, and hence this note.
The guitar is a YAMAHA, G-55A, classical, bought in January 1990 from Hampshire
Music Co. in Nashua. It was rarely used, almost new, and has a softshell case.
What might be its resale value? He paid $100 for it including the case. I'd
like to get your opinions and offers. I'd like to get a fair price for my
friend.
Thanks for your help,
Jay
PS: It is available for inspection at my place in Nashua.

| There's two ways I'd approach this.
If it's in real good shape (read-- LIKE NEW) than I'd try to sell it
for around 25% less then what I paid.. So, $75.00 ...
Another approach would be to look at some of the local circulars
(like the "Want Ad")and see what other people are asking for this
guitar in various conditions. You may find that you could start it
at $125 and take $100.. your friend has lost nothing.
Hampshire music gives pretty good deals *sometimes*, so you may find
that $75.00 would be a dead give away. (Of course you could always
give it a shot for $100.00 and see what kind of counter offers you
scare up.)
