2163.0. "How old is my Musicmaster?" by WELCLU::GREENB (In a euphoric state) Thu Apr 04 1991 10:13

    I have a guitar here that I don't know too much about; I'd like to know
    how old it is, and anything else too.

    It's a Fender Musicmaster, and has a sort-of Strat-shaped body, with
    only one pickup, volume and tone control.

    It was made in the USA, and has the serial number S808058.

2163.1I know they made them in the 70's...WEORG::WIEGLERThu Apr 04 1991 14:085
    I can't help with the date, but I can tellyou that the Musicmaster was
    Fender's entry level guitar. There was both a guitar and a bass with
    the Musicmaster name.

This brings up something I've been meaning to ask.

Where are all the 60's and 70's Mustangs/Musicmasters/Bronco etc.
Guitars. You almost never see them for sale. Are they collectable
in any way? Did they all fall apart? ;-)

I'd love to have "competition" Mustang or Bronco guitar, with that
racing stripe.. :-). Don't want to pay the big bucks for it though..

    Well, Tom, the Musicmaster I have is in no danger of falling apart. In
    fact, it's in remarkably good nick for suffering a lifetime of abuse.

    Although it has but one pickup, and is therefore quite limited in terms
    of sound, it's quite nice. The pickup is set a few inches from the
    bridge, so it's not as biting as, say, the bridge pickup on a Strat, or
    a Tele, but it's got a nice ringing sound. Also, the neck is a bit
    fatter than a Strat or Tele, but it's still pretty comfortable to play.

2163.6I HAD ONE OF THOSEFREEBE::LOUVATThu Jun 06 1991 11:0414
    The musicmaster is an entry level Fender that I would like to get my
    hands on again. I had one that I toured with through-out the state of
    Maine in the early to mid-sixties. It was in production no earlier than
    1960. The one I had came with a 3/4 scale neck and a single pickup.
    This little ax was a credit to the Fender line of guitars. It readily
    withstood the riggors of the road and was very dependable as to staying
    in tune during a hard session, and its over-all sound was quite accept-
    able even though it had only a limited tonal range. I liked it, it did
    served me well and for all I know it probably is being used now by a
    beginner somewhere in Maine. Enjoy it while you have it if it plays
    well and sounds good to you.

    	Bill, I probably listened to you in Maine in the mid sixties! What
    was the name of your band?? I agree about the musicmaster, cool
    guitar, friend of mine had a brand new red one.. knowing him he's
    probably still got it!
