2015.0. "Tube bass preamp circuit needed" by POLAR::CALDWELL () Thu Nov 01 1990 16:29

    Man, am I ever on a building kick.....

    I want to try building a tube, bass preamp. Nothing fancy at all.

    I want to try and warm up, and sweeten the sound of my Sunn amp by
    bypassing the solid state preamp.

    Does anyone out there have a schematic of some good but simple
    brand name preamp that they would share with me?

    Direct contact can be made either at node POLAR::CALDWELL, or
    DTN 621-4741.

    Thanks large,

    Barry

2015.2Wanna Marshall one?ELESYS::JASNIEWSKIThis time forever!Fri Nov 02 1990 08:2113

    I've got a Marshall JCM 800 Series model 1986 50W Bass Amp circuit
    diagram. The preamp section looks simple enough...though it has
    6 controls...two 12AX7s look like they'd do the job! The output
    of this circuit will be *high impedance* however, so you'll have
    to know the input impedance of that Sunn transistor circuit - at
    the point where you'll be going into it.

    My immediate guess is that it *wont* be on the order of 1 meg ohm,
    which is the loading this circuit would need to operate correctly.
    Make that three 12AX7s...Send me mail if you'd like a copy...

    I could send ya a copy of the prints for the SWR readhead which has a
    tube front end, also I got a circuit from "electronic Musician" a few
    months ago...don't expect too much of a sweetnesgain though...I have an
    SWR SM400 and its still not as sweet as my Ampeg B-1, which is all tube.
