2005.1 | But Can I Find It In The US? | AQUA::ROST | Neil Young and Jaco in Zydeco Hell | Tue Oct 23 1990 09:33 | 19 |
| Poul,
I assume this is a European release? Jan has not had much released
in the US since Focus went the way of the world. In fact, I've seen
all of three albums, of which I own two. The newest is from about 1980
or so.
Could you post the label and catalog #?
Brian
U.S. Akkerman releases:

Jan Akkerman and Kaz Luz (Atco)

2005.2 | you can even find it at Strawberries | RICKS::CALCAGNI | my baby goes to 11 | Tue Oct 23 1990 10:01 | 2 |
| It's on IRS, the same label that brought you Guitarspeak. In fact,
imo, much of this album would sound right at home on Guitarspeak.

Brian,
I'll look when I go home and post the number! As for the others, I've
got the first two on LP, but the 'Live' I don't know? Re. -1: 'Guitar-
speak'? Is that the one with different guitarists on it?
Anyways, I remember seeing 3-4 CD's after 'Focus' time, but I always
ignored them, since they were about 20% more expensive than every other
CD. But after listening to 'The Noise Of Art', I would gladly pay +50%!
I'll see what I can find over here and post the titles as soon as I get
them!

This note has been inactive for a while so......
Jan Akkerman has a new CD out which IMO knocks spots off
Noise Of Art it`s called Puccini`s Cafe and is available on import
in the UK from CD Services of Dundee.
It contains some of his finest playing for a long time and
is also superbly produced.
Highlights have to be Key To The Highway with its
lovely `floating` guitar taking the melody,Burgers Blues,Love Is Uneven
with their superb tones ,very thick a la Billy Gibbons and the title
track which is very much in the JA tradition of Eurojazz ballad -
whatever that is ! - all in all a superb return to form.
If you can`t find it in the US,then order it from the above,
who are very helpful AND reliable.
CD Services,
Magnum House,
140 Seagate,
Dundee DD1 2HF
UK.
FYIO re the cdography in the previous note,Complete Guitarist is a
compilation of tracks from It Could Happen To You and Can`t Stand
Noise which were vinyl only releases in the UK.It is WELL worth
checking out.

| Sounds good. I personally found "Noise of Art" totally forgettable.
It would be nice to have some current JA to enjoy.

2005.8 | Long-time Akkerman fan | DREGS::BLICKSTEIN | Light to dark, dark to light | Mon May 09 1994 14:09 | 8 |
| Akkerman was probably the first "shredder" I ever heard. He was hot
not only by the standards of his time (20 years ago), but IMHO lots
of his stuff would stand up to today's standards.
And unlike a lot of today's shredders, I think the guy always did
something that had a high creative artistic content. Since there
weren't many guys around then with his chops, nearly everything
he did could be regarded as "invention".

I'd go along with that. I wouldn't cite Akkerman as one of my favorite
guitarists, but I always had the impression with him that the Music was
the first item on the agenda.
None of the "guitar for guitar's sake" antics...
