Dang, I just chucked a black one that I thought I'd never have a
use for... Stewart Macdonald sells replacement pickgards and so does
Chandler... We have their numbers here Lemme see, I guess I'd start
with a DIR/TIT=*phone* and see what I came up with..

| Dang me, too. I was looking for one of these for a long time, finally
decided I didn't really need it, then saw one recently somewhere. But
now I can't remember where. You're right, the usual places like Stewart
McDonald's don't carry them. If I run across it I'll let you know
(after I pick up the pieces left ... after I run across it ... ).

I had trouble finding a new pick guard for my '72 Telecaster Deluxe.
These folks made one for me. All I did was call and ask. Mayhaps this
can help you out. Here's the info...

| I'm not sure where you can find one. If I find out, I'll post it here.
The pickgaurds used on the original ES335's, 345, 355 were slightly
longer than the ones used on later models. Chances are if you find
one it will be the shorter one used on the later models. I'm not sure
if it will line up with the holes on his '62. It's worth a try, though.
I would think our resident Gibson expert (Danny Weber) would know.
He originated most of the Gibson notes (ie: note 1016, 1132, etc.)

Or there's always the old standby. Order some pick guard
material and cut your own. I (just about) did that when I
rebuilt my (mid 60's) Kalamzoo. Only I used red Plexiglas
from the front of an old MICOM switch. Of course I needed
more than your standard tools for that. (A band saw, a
drill, a coping saw, a few different files (round and flat),
a hand grinder and alot of sandpaper to smooth the edges.
:^)) Turned out perfectly too !
If ya' can't find one, there's always the possibility of
custom building one. Hosono Guitar Works sells the material.
It'd be much easier though if you had the original pick guard
for proper dimensions though.
Just another idea. . . :^)

Thanks for all the replies... Well I'm not going to make one, the
guy in Italy could do that!! Besides, I don't have any tools. Pretty
ambitious of you, though! I'll check around a little bit more.
Interesting point about the difference in sizes between the early 60's
and later models. This makes finding one that fits, about impossible.
Come to think of it, that guitar looked nice without a pickguard!!

Phil,
You might try Chandler to see if they have a pickguard for you.
I didn't specifically see an ES335 pickguard but their catalog had
lots and lots of pickguards listed. It's worth a shot.

Chandler does a lot of things, including making replacement
parts. The number should be in the information note.

| I checked in 1421 (the manufacturers info note) and Chandler is not
listed. I recall that pickgaurds is one of their strongest product
lines. You should be able to get their number out of any guitar
rag. If you do, please post it in 1421.

ps: I would send mail to Danny Weber. If he doesn't know where to
find a pickgaurd for this, no one does. Apparently, he doesn't have
his ears on this week.

I'm pretty sure that Chandler only sells to dealers. But they sell
at 50% so there's usually some room to negoitiate price. I celled them
once and they said something to that effect.

Well, he doesn't, so I guess no one does :-)
If I needed such a part, I'd call one of the vintage dealers and try to
find an original. I'd make sure I knew the exact year. Even so, the
holes may not exactly line up.
Some of the dealers who might have one : Gruhn, Lark St, American Music
Center, Washington Music, Mandolin Bros, Voltage, Fretware, Norman's.
Check the classified in Guitar Player for phone numbers of most of
these.
