1965.0. "Gary Moore -- Moore Better Blues!" by RAVEN1::BLAIR (Practice makes you tired) Fri Sep 14 1990 16:19

So, how 'bout that Gary Moore? What do you think about
"Still Got the Blues"? It's growing on me and I think Jerry
sits in front of his stereo cross legged, with lights dimmed
and incense burning when he plays it (read: he likes it).
Decent article on him in GP. Good attitude too.

Hi there !

Maybe it was Empty Rooms ?? Most likely !

If anyone is intersted, in the German Guitar&Bass there was a transcription of
"Still Got the Blues".

...maybe I shouldn't have said that........ ;-)

Send me mail with your mail destination, I already made one spare copy when I
copied it for a friend, which is now waiting im my desk......

Or I could try to get it scanned in and send it as DDIF, so you can just print
it on a laser. Maybe even better (and faster). Let me check how the quality
would be.

And, don't be surprised when you see some explanations in German, but lead
sheet and notes should be usable for you anyway. Please note B is written down
as H, your Bb is B in our notation.

	best regards

Oh Pretty Woman ... yawn ... hasn't this all been done 200 million
times already? Sticking in the Albert King solo after Moore's
mega-overdrive Les Paul-through-a-Marshall solo makes it seem
like something they just stuck in there to make an 'authentic'
blues song. Obviously Moore can play way more notes and way
louder than Albert. So what. More inane 'rock guitarist pretending
    to play blues music'.

I like it! Especially "Still Got the Blues" Nice production...

Didn't this guy play with "Thin Lizzy" back when they were goin pretty
good... Well at anyrate, before {Geesh, can't remember his name--- Bass

Anyhow, yea, I happen to like it,, lots... (Even if it has been done

Thank you! I wouldn't have remembered that for the life of me.
Pretty bad too cuz we used to cover a lot of Thin Lizzy tunes
back in the late 70s early 80s.

it's been about 4 years since I've even looked an issue of GP..

Maybe I'll grab it and see what they gotta say about G.M.

I like it too. Not at first, but it has grown on me. I think
Moore has a real admiration for King, despite how some may feel his
playing does not compliment it. Thin Lizzy was cool too. Did they
    do "Southbound"?

When "Still Got The Blues" was recorded, it was intended as a "B" side
for another single. He recorded it fairly quickly as it was initially meant
to be a "filler". After he heard it back a few times, he went
"apesheite" over it. For everyone at the studio it was the best track
    on his LP.

I heard "Still Got The Blues" while driving home last night. So what
if I thought his bends sounded as good as those of Jeff Healy. So what
if he has incredible chops and finesse. So what if he made that V
absolutely cry. So what if he gets a wonderful bell-like tone on notes
    up around the 24th fret.

He's just one more rock guitarist playing blues licks with lots of gain.

I'm sure that there are folks in Kalamazoo who feel that Gibson was the

    Re: Gary the rocker

In a recent interview, Moore stressed that his initial inspiration was
Peter Green (pretty much forgotten by many folks these days, he took
Fleetwood Mac to #1..the only blues act in the UK to achieve that).
While he enjoyed doing the rock stuff overall, he felt the blues/rock
thing was more "natural" for him. Back to his roots, etc.

He also mentioned he never expected "Still Got The Blues" to actually
sell better than his metal efforts, so that kind of prodded him into
    continuing in that vein.

Anybody seen "Over The Top" recently? It was a Cozy Powell LP which
had Gary and Jack Bruce (!!!!) blasting away. I don't think it ever
saw US release. Wouldn't mind having a copy...

Subject: baker/bruce teamed up again...
From: [email protected] (John Vanderpool)

!!! NEW EXCITING SUPER GROUP IS FORMED !!!

	- Ginger BAKER, Jack BRUCE and Gary MOORE forms BBM -

Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker of Cream fame has formed a new exciting band
together with the well-known guitarist Gary Moore (ex Thin Lizzy, ex G-
force, ex Collosseum II) who recently has done a couple of blues albums.
They call themself simply BBM (Baker, Bruce & Moore). An album will be out
in June according to a press release. Also a tour throughout Europe during
the summer is being planned (see the initial dates below). They will mix
in songs from Moore's past as well as some Cream song with the new material
at their shows.

Here is the initial itinerary for BBM's first tour:

	May 16 Muziekcentrum, Utrecht, Netherlands
May 18 Terminal One, Munich, Germany
May 22 Ulster Hall, Belfast, N. Ireland
	May 23 Barrowlands, Glasgow, Scotland
May 31 Falkoner Theatre, Copenhagen, Denmark

	June 1 Cirkus, Stockholm, Sweden
June 5 Brixton Academy, London, UK
June 6 Le Zenith, Paris, France

Moore and Bruce have worked together in the past, notably on Cozy
Powell's "Over The Top" album. Maybe this will last longer then some
past JB projects. I just hope he and Ginger can keep the hatchet
buried long enough to get through the tour.

I dunno, I still think it *could* be good, mostly because Moore has
some fusion chops which would fit in well with the jazz backgrounds of
    his bandmates.

However, Bruce has a history of recording great albums and then going
on tour doing nothing but the Cream songbook (witness his last tour,
where he did nothing at all from his new album and only a few tunes
from *any* of his solo releases, but plenty of Cream stuff). Can't say
I blame him for going for the obvious crowd-pleasers. After all, he
probably makes more from Cream royalties in one month than he does from
all his other recordings in a year.

For that matter, the one time I saw Ginger he also was doing a Creamy
power trio rather than performing the African-influenced instrumentals
he's been recording since the Air Force days.

In any case, I think Moore is a good match musically but whether it
turns out to be as turgid as the trios with Leslie West and Robin
    Trower remains to be seen.

Right, I was going to say the same thing. He may not have much choice
in the matter; people want to hear the Cream stuff.

I remember when I saw Jack Bruce with Kip Hanrahan's band; this
incredible jazz/rock/latin/avante fusion and the only time the
crowd erupted was for the obligatory "Sunshine of Your Love"
    encore.

I'm kind of happy about BBM, if only for Gary Moore's sake.... I've
been a fan of Gary's for a long time and I don't think he gets the
credit he deserves. He was lumped in with alot of the "flashy guitar
types" during the 80's, and didn't get much attention until he recorded
his first blues album. His blues albums are good, but not really what
Gary does best. My favorites are the "Run For Cover" and "Wild Frontier"
    albums.

I'm hoping that this trio allows for more eclectic playing...
certainly the talent is there, and judging by the types of albums
all 3 of these players have put out, it's certainly within the realm
of possibility they might end up with a pretty adventurous album.
Of course, the easy way out would be typical, generic "power trio"
music, but let's hope for the best...
