| > What's a "hook"?
I guess you could say its a pattern of notes, usually repeated throughout the
song, that grabs the listeners attention, and is what they usually remember
about a song. A song with a real catchy part would have a "killer hook". Get
the idea?
There are tons of these, since I really like guitar hooks, but here are a
few off the top of my head:
Led Zeppelin - pick one, there are dozens to choose from! Including "Whole
Lotta Love", "Black Dog", "Rock and Roll", "The Rover". Page
was the master of guitar riffs!
Beatles - "Daytripper"
Aerosmith - "Walk This Way"
Chuck Berry - "Johnny B. Goode", et al
Eric Clapton - "Sunshine Of Your Love", "Layla"
Neil Young - "Hey Hey My My (Into The Black)"
Credence Clearwater Revival - "Bad Moon Rising"
Doobie Brothers - "China Grove"
Fastway - all of the 'All Fired Up' album, "Say What You Will", "Easy Livin'"
Van Halen - opening of "Ain't Talkin 'Bout Love"
Pink Floyd - "Wish You Were Here"
Fleetwood Mac - "Oh Well"
Hall and Oates - "Family Man" (bass line)
Theme from Peter Gunne
Rolling Stones - "Can't You Hear Me Knockin'", "Brown Sugar", "Satisfaction",
"Honky Tonk Woman", "Angie", many more
Squeeze - "Black Coffee In Bed"
Foreigner - "Women"
Stevie Ray Vaughn - "Crossfire"
U2 - "Sunday Bloody Sunday"
Tora Tora - "Walking Shoes"

Bach's Gavotte and Rondeau from the E major lute/violin partita
has a few mwasures that have been qoted and ripped off in many places,
it comes after the 2nd statement of the theme.
This form has a theme, like a chorus, then a developement section,
then the theme, rather the same as AbAcAdAe.
Anyway , if you hear it, you'd know it.
