| A friend of mine owns the exact same guitar. His was modifyed with
a SeymourDuncan SH6 and 2 Classic Stacks. OOPs lets not forget the
Floyd Rose.... He paid $600 for it used . I wouldn't pay much more
unless you have that overwelming compulsion to that without this guitar
you will die ;^) I get these feelings very..verry...verry often.

| Just keep in mind that you can buy a brand new American Standard
Strat for ~$500.00 w/case. The anniversaries may be seldom-seen,
but they will never fetch the high prices paid for pre-CBS Strats.

were quite a lot of them made.

| Well, here's the sweet part about this "deal". The owner of this baby
is currently playing his Les Paul through *my* Kittyhawk M3, and he's
about ready to put a lien on a testicle to buy it - so I told him I'd
let it slip away for $450, and he said YEAH !!! But, he wants to pay
me a little each week until the $450 is paid - I'm not too crazy about
that idea, but I *do* have possesion of the Strat in case of default. I
might just offer him $100 and the Kitty and call it even - this guitar
is in real good shape, but it's not mint by any means. Can't let
emotion overule good judgement here. It's hard to do though ...

| Rick already knows about the $200 investment in the Kitty - but he also
knows he'd have to pay a LOT more for a comparable head, he's got no
problem with that. But, after playing this guitar all night at a gig,
I'm convinced that even if he won't sell it - I gotta grab a another
Start with stock everything. This guitar has a few scratches and dents
so I may be able to use that as a bargaining tool. If not, I'll steal
it .... 8^) I may have to offer him a now (on the entire $450) or
never deal so I can go buy a nice Strat.

| didn't you Oh Scary 1 have a strat-like instrument that you painted
up like EvH's?
I'm about to off my baretta because it's pretty weirded out and I
think I'd be alot happier with a Les Paul, but I'm not so sure.
Do you know how Hendrix got such a sweet tone out of his Strat?
Maybe those vintage limited-frequency range speakers?
I almost croaked when I saw a vid of him playing a Gibson a couple of
weeks ago on the Arts and Entertainment station, I never saw him with
one of those. Maybe a Flying V, good Lord those things are a pain to
play!

| Keep up your determination Jerry. If you want to twang, you need a
Strat or a Tele. No offense, but the silver and gold anniversary
models look puky to me. Of course Pewter (*nothing* like "no sale
silver") is cool.

| The color doesn't bother me but the "anniversary" logo does. BTW,
I offered Rick the Kitty M3 and $100 ... he's really thinking this one
out. He said I was welcome to play the guitar as long as I wanted,
same offer I made him with the Kitty - but it's kinda like fooling
around with someone else's wife .. the time does come when they have to
go "home". I don't want to get my heart broken ! 8^) All through
our gig this weekend I was pointing at the guitar (during sets) and
saying "$100 and it's mine, right ?". He just laughed and it got to
be a running joke. Then at the end of the gig Saturday night, I went
to shake his hand for a good performance this weekend ... he said, "I'm
not shaking your hand for ANYTHING yet ... it might be confused as an
agreement to the deal ...". I think he'll come around ....

Just to mess his head up, you should ask to use the M3 one night and
blow his doors off! That might get him goin'. Also, you could play
my Strat one night and tell him you might buy mine instead...

| I love a parade ! 8^) I worked on him a bit more tonight - I took
a 1988-1989 Guitar Buyers Guide (hey, it's all I had ...) down to his
apartment and showed him what the M3 listed for then ($1,179), plus I
reminded him that I had a complete set of 6L6's and EL34's to go with
it. He's weakening ....
The more I think about it, if I could have my choice, I'd sell the
Kitty, and put some $$$ with it and buy a nice Strat with a natural
finish, but this may work out in the long run.
Scary (who's started playing slide as of today !)

Better yet, sell the Marshall!

| Hell, I can't give the Marshall away ! Besides, the Strat sounds
really nice with the GP-8 and all. WTF, guess I'll keep *that* part of
my rig.
Could someone tell me what's supposed to be so hot about the 25th
Anniversay Strat ? Is it supposed to be a '54 re-issue type thing
(which would be kinda tough since it's got a maple fretboard ..),
what's the scoop ?

| Scary...
If you really wanna know, the *RARE* Anniversary strats are the first
issue of the series...you can distinctly tell these apart, as they do
NOT have "ANNIVERSARY" on the upper bout! These guitars are whitish
in color, with these cool silver sparkles mixed in with the paint!
A rare finish on a rare series of guitars. The silver painted ones
aren't very special IMHO.

| I played a new American Standard a few minutes ago, and it didn't play
ANYWHERE as nice as this silver job. I kinda figured that the silver
ones weren't "limited edition's" or anything like that, I was just
wondering what the big selling feature was. Like the Clapton model
with the lace sensors and non-moving trem. Surely they didn't stick
this high price tag on it 'cuz it says "anniversary" on the top horn.
Scary (who'd still love to have an American Standard ...)

I seem to remember one difference between the STD and the "vintage"
models which was that the width of the fretboard was wider on the STD.
I guess with the older models, the little E would "fall off" the
fretboard. I believe this was discussed somewhere in this file too.

1886.17 | Let's talk the same language here guys.... | SALEM::ABATELLI | Labs_R_Us | Wed Jul 11 1990 10:33 | 16 |
| I played a 25 anniversary Strat and it didn't do anything for me.
It looked cool, played OK (narrow type fretboard like the '60s Strats)
sounded OK, but IMHO "not" worth $700-$800. No way! Tremelo was
crappy, my '69 stayed in tune much better. IMHO? A Kittyhawk amp
could have listed for $1M, but the fact is that nobody ever pays
"list" and the head were going for between ~$200 and $400.!! This
is nothing much to bargain for! It's worth whatever someone wants
to pay for it! $200 - $300 would be fair PLUS $100? OK $400.00.
That Strat would probably go for ~$500.00 here in the northeast.
Go from there guys, I mean like you're all friends and as friends
you should be able to get something together here.
Just my 2 worth... I'll shut up now.
Fred ('69 Strat owner)
