| I lived in that area for about two years (three years ago) and found it
practically devoid of good stores to buy equipment. Seems like there are
(were?) no really big stores there at the time. When I was there last
Christmas one fairly large music store had opened up (actually an older
store that carried mostly used stuff had radically expanded), had a lot of
interesting stuff in it, but I don't remember the name. If I were there,
I could take you to it, but trying to explain how to get virtually
anywhere in that town is beyond me. The road layout is by far the most
confusing that I've ever experienced. FWIW I was in there for over an
hour looking around at stuff and was never even greeted by a salesperson...
I know you're quite familiar with my recent equipment buying habits, Mike
(for others, I change equipment quite a bit). During the two years I was
there, I didn't buy a single thing...and I was single and had a LOT more
free money then I do now. Let that tell you something.

Don't know about Raleigh, but try Reliable Sound in Charlotte if you
are passing thru. I haven't been there, but I think Coop told me
it was big (2 floors).

| I remembered another place that you probably do want to check out when you're
there, Mike. It's called AL&M and they have a pretty nice showroom and also
do mailorder.
As usual (with NC), it's really difficult to describe how to get there
(especially so since I never really knew the street names that well). It's
off of Hillsboro Street close to Blue Ridge Road (I think it's "road"). Anyway
it's probably easier to call them up and get directions.
Anyway, they used to have a good selection of new and used guitars and a lot
of PA gear. A fairly interesting place worth going to.
My wife said Burrage Music too, but I don't remember them having any
equipment to speak of, mostly books and sheet music.

| Thanks for the leads! I'll add it to my list. I'm already planning
on visiting Zion's factory/showroom in Greensboro. I'm told it is only
an hour drive from Raleigh.

1855.5 | Yeah, Greensboro is pretty close. | COOKIE::G_HOUSE | No, I'm very, very shy. | Thu Jun 07 1990 15:47 | 5 |
| Probably more lke 30-45 minutes. It's only about 40 miles. Do they do tours
at the Zion factory? If so, I'll probably try and catch that the next time
I'm out that way. My wives relatives live there so we visit periodically.

| I'll let you know on the tours. I bet another city in Dixie has
some great shops to visit: Nashville!
