Has anybody out there seen this band? This band is to me what being a successful local working band is all about. You may like the Pro's, going to concerts and buying records and all, but when it comes down to takin your lady out for an evening to listen to a great band, and one that seems to do everything, you MUST check these guys (and girl) out!! I've seen 'em 1/2 a dozen times and introduced alot of my friends to them. No one has yet to say that they're any less than great. More to the point of this conference though, it's the bass player who knocks me out. The kid plays all styles including a slap and pop on his fretless. In fact he seems to alternate between fretted and fretless from night to night. He'll do these octave fill ins that blow me away. Most people never bother listening to the bass, but being a player I have to! It's too bad the audience really doesn't know a great bassist because he's "just part of the woodwork". Only this guy is like a piece of oak in an otherwise pine environment. In an earlier topic, I added a reply about finger rolls, and using three fingers. This kid does 'em all. He's definately a bass player's bass player. If you haven't seen the band, check 'em out and as I said take your lady cuz she'll love it too (somehow makes 'em moist). They play every Thurs thru Sat nite at Classics at the Manchester Airport (NH). If you see a dude with brown hair, glasses, and braces on his teeth, drooling, doin 12 ounce curls up at the bar, that'll be me. Say hello. Sakman

1795.1 | You can join the band on Sundays | DISORG::WIEGLER | Tue Apr 24 1990 15:13 | 13
The couple of times I have seen this band, they have impressed me. On Sunday nights, people (like us) can sit in with the band and jam. I've done this and it's a lot of fun because they are such good musicians. Once when I was there, they had about 4 different female vocalists who came up. Each woman sang a set of well-rehearsed songs. Each had a totally different style (ranging from Patsy Cline to the Eurythmics) and the band supported each singer very well. The band also has a good set up with a nice stage, good monitors, even monitors hanging from the ceiling over the band members aimed down at them. I would like their gig. Willy

Well, it's written that all things must come to an end, and alas I fear the end of this band is near. This past Sat nite was the bassist's last night since he's moving on to California in search of bright lights and fame. On hell of a talent. Other than Stanley Clark, I think he is the best bassist I've ever seen. The kid (Chris Lester) is a monster, talks softly (real nice kid - I doubt if he does drugs at all 'though his long hair to some might suggest otherwise) but carries a big stick - his bass. The new player for the band is adequate, he'll do fine, most people in the audience will never know the difference, except us players. The other bad news about this band is that the drummer, who is also a supertalent is leaving in a few weeks to join Chris. I must admit, I'm a bit envious. Not only for their level of talent, but here they are - two kids who're goin' for the adventure. The good news is that the band will continue and I'm sure will still be the best band around. There isn't a weak spot in the band at all. Just as the band evolves to it's new version I'll miss watchin the dude on bass and the drummer. "sakman" |
