1630.0. "B-BIRD:UNUSUAL,PRETTY,BUT NOT GREAT" by WAV14::FARREN () Wed Jan 10 1990 08:52

I was hoping to find an old(or new) Bluesbird(solid or semi) for
something in the $200-$300 range. I really like the shape and
I kind of like having something that looks like a Les Paul but isn't.
It is a really good guitar..but not good enough, in my opinion,
to be a main guitar. You don't see many around and it isn't because
they are ot good, just not popular. Maybe they are not popular
beause they aren't great. But I would like to have one just for
something interesting and unusual to pick up for a song or two.

I also had one of those Guild s-100. Not a bad guitar, and, again,
alot like an S.G. A little better looking but not as good a guitar.

1630.1Consider a SwedeROLL::BEFUMOBetween nothingness & eternityWed Jan 10 1990 09:138
If your simply looking for a good Pseudo Les Paul, and are not dead set
on a Bluesbird, you might want to consider trying to track down a
Hagstrom Swede. In their day they were more expensive than an LP
Custom, and were really top quality instruments. They're shaped much
like an LP, but have a bevel on the back of the body, much like a
strat, making them very comfortable to hold. They feature bound ebony
fingerboards, great stock pickups, and can be had for the price range
    you're considering.

    Hey Charlie...

I know little about the Guild line, but I'll put a strong second vote
in here for the Hagstrom Swede!!! I'm a big Les Paul fan, and the
Swede's are similar but great in their own right. The neck is a tad
slimmer and a lot faster than a Paul. They're a little hard to find,
but there is usually one flaoting around Daddy's or Mr. Music. They
were issued in three colors; Black, Cherry, and Natural.

On a side and totally unrelated topic, I found part of an arrangement
I did of _Play the Game_ while I was at Berzerklee. It was for rock
ensemble and strings...came out pretty good as I remember, and finding
it was a shock, I forgot about that one!

I have found about a half-dozen dealers with one or more original BB's
for sale. None want less than $500 for guitars in average or better
    condition.

There is a Swede for sale in note 2.220. I didn't see a SOLD update,
so mayhaps it's still up for grabs. As far as the B-Birds go, no help
there, I havn't seen one since I moved here to Arizona.

That Hag's mine & I deleted the note 'cause I had decided to keep
it. However, now I AM looking at a few other things & if any of them
are half decent, I might consider selling the Swede. If you're
    interested please send mail.
