| They are top quality, but they are also expensive. If they have
them in stock, you get them fast, if not, you may wait quite a
while for it to show up.
I visited the factory. It's a house in an average neighborhood.
The living room was converted to a show room, the dining room
(with the owners father running it), was where the IBM P.C.
sat & orders were entered. The garage was the shipping department.
In the basement & the shed out back were where things were made.
As I say, they do quality work, but their stock is stashed in
closets & anywhere you can imagine. They often don't appear to
be in any rush to get things done, if it's not outside of the
current schedule.
They do make up different scale length necks as a custom order
as well as appropriately scaled bodies (ever wanted a Strat look
alike with 24 3/4 inch scale like a Les Paul or SG??).
Doesn't Stewart MacDonald offer a similar bolt on neck for about
1/2 to 1/3rd the price (this is for a Strat style guitar, right??)
You might want to check up on this before your order anything.

They don't offer a 24 fret neck, only 22 if that's important. Also the
neck that has the wide fretboard has a Jackson style headstock. You
can definately save some money if these things don't make any
difference to you.
The neck with the wide fretboard is 1-11/16" at the nut with a 12"
fretboard radius and costs $91.48 with a maple or rosewood fingerboard
and $94.68 with ebony.

| This is for a new guitar of mine.
There's something about having 24 frets on the fingerboard, if opens my
brain way up for som reason. Classical excersizes, which I do now
out of boredom alot now, are stupid things that run all the way up and
all the way down the board. I'm not having the trouble I did a year ago
when I went to a 24 fret neck.
But there's something about just taking your solo or thing an octave up
on the spur. I don't feel real confortable doing this on the short
necks, but on 24 frets, it's different, like a window is open.
And I can get no fingerboard markers on a Warmouth, it's funny on the
guitar I have em, I use em, but going to the classic I get around
too. Something about the width of a fret, or seeing the positions on
the board you get used to.
Gonna use a Mahogany body, 2 single and a hum. No pickup mounting
rings, a shallow hole with the pickups screwed down to the wood.
And the wonderbar. Should give me some resonance, ya think?
|
1612.5 | | VLNVAX::ALECLAIRE | | Mon Jan 01 1990 13:51 | 8 |
| Maybe maybe I might layer the top with spruce. Seeing that the
wonderbar sits on it, it might give me the resonance,
sustain and thick as cream tone I want.
Perhaps if I route a cavity under the Wonderbar, then glue the
spruce on, it would increase these charateristics.
Perhaps somebody has seen something like this.

I have owned a Warmouth "telecaster" for a number of years
and it is a well built guitar. Ash body and maple/rosewood
neck. I'm left handed and wanted a well made and easy to care
for guitar. They were very helpful in allowing me to take a little
extra time to pay them as I was between jobs for a while and a
guitar was low on priority.
I have toured the "facility" and it is a nice way to spend a
few hours and just look and touch. Nice people and you never know
who you will run into there. A friend of mine also has a warmouth
"strat" and has been very satisfied with it. esp. the necks.
They can help you find that special neck before you buy it.
There was about 200 to 300 necks that could be handled and inspected
and there was the owner who could answer ?'s and give advice.
They get my vote for quality, attention to detail and service.
p.s. my telly was about 500.00. all but the case included.

| I'm bummed, I found my old Warmouth catalog and the 24 fret neck comes
in rosewood only. I really want a maple neck. the catalo lists the
fender- style head in birdseye @167 and another head something like
Jackson, maybe a little more like the old kramer at 217.
1 3/4" nut is the widest.
Does anyone have a basswood body? Warmouth says it sounds warm, I
don't know if it sounds warmer than mahogany.

| I'd be VERY hesitant to send money to these characters. It took me
something like six or seven months just to get a catalog from them. I
sent them checks twice (neither of which has ever been chashed), called
them three or four times, and each time it was just like talking to
someone who just got in from Venus. If I HAD to buy something from
them I'd definitely make sure I paid with a credit card so I'd have
some recourse when they started jerking me around.

| My experience talking with Warmouth on th ephone has been similar...they
really don't seem to be interested in talking and in my case, I was looking for
a custom cut pickguard, they weren't even interested unless I gave them a
template (if I had one I'd a cut it myself!). DItto a custom body (Tele
thinline, flametop 1 ea.)...
I did pick up a used Warmouth neck, it seems to be very nice but I haven't
put it on anything yet...the price was right $75 (bird's eye maple with ebony,
list is ~$250) and it's in very good shape...
I think the products they make are probably real good, they seem to lack in the
service area...

Warmouth. This is a matter of concern to me and I'll post any update

and do not handle english very well.

There's an ad for Chandler guitars in GPFTPM, it shows a Tele-style
body routed all out with a spruce top.
Also in the Ibeniz catalog they have a hollowed solid-body out of
mahogany.

Buck, I'll check all my catalogs at home. It seems that back
a couple months ago I ordered a few catalogs. One from
Hosono and I `THINK' Warmouth was the other. I'll get back
to you tonight when I log in from home.

You may want to try Chandler or Performance Guitar for 24 fret necks.

a satin-finish maple neck for my American Standard Strat with

about 16").

| Depends on where you get it from and what options you get, about $85-$300.
If you want a Warmoth neck with the old compound radius and all, expect to
pay somewhere close to $300. If you want a Stewart-McDonalds generic Strat
replacement, about $85.

Buck, looks like you're out of luck on the Warmouth. I
checked and could only find my WD Music Products catalog.
They've got a Strat replacement neck that's Scalloped with a
Maple fretboard, but it's only 22-frets. That one goes for
$260.00. They also list a scalloped rosewood for $260.00 as
well. Standard 11" radius with 1 5/8" nut width. Nothing
on the Tele style replacements but they do list replacement
necks for the Jackson. More expensive with a 14" radius and
a 1 11/16" nut width.
Hosono on the other hand, lists 24-fret, four bolt mounting
necks. Specs on those are Top loaded, `super duty' double
expanding truss rod at the end of the neck (body side).
Scale is 25" for Fender specs. Available nut widths they
offer are 1 5/8", 1 11/16", 1 3/4". Radius is 12". They
don't offer scalloped necks, although they do offer:
Fretboard/stock
Maple/maple $194.00
Rosewood/maple $206.00
Purple heart/maple $206.00 All listed are
Brazillian rosewood/maple $253.00 25" scale, 24-
Pauferro/maple $218.00 fret necks.
Ebony/maple $233.00
Birdseye Maple Stock, add $30.00
They also offer 12 different head stock selections, but I
don't see any reverse stocks as you wanted.
Sorry I can't help ya' any more than that dude.

| re: need a neck for my amercian std strat
Warmouth necks appear to come unfinished!]
I recently bought a Fender replacement neck for a good price (also unfinished)
it's the '62 re-issue rosewood fingerboard
seems real nice
Stweart Mac's has finished necks that are very fender-like for under $100.
Warmouth necks are quite expensive and are not fender-like but come with a
compound radius, these are excellant necks but overpriced IMHO.
