I'm gonna be back home in Burlington, Vermont for the Xmas holidays. As I've been living in Carolina for the past 8+ years, I'd like to know what are the better blues/rock bars and better music stores in the area. I may need to blow my gas money to get through the cabin fever attacks. Is Hunt's Mill/Mining club still any good? BTO noters - talk to me! Thanks, -pat

Hunt's is no longer. It is now one of those 50's disco type places. You'll have to ask someone else about what clubs have good music - it's been ages since I've been. As far as music stores go I'm not sure where the *best* ones are but the first ones to come to mind are the three that are now in the newly expanded University Mall, Pure Pop (that must have been around when you were here...), and there's a new Strawberries down on Shelburne Road in the mall across from Sears where I've found the folks to be very helpful in finding things... Bummer on Hunt's. Strawberries and Pure Pop are git shops, right? I thought they were record shops. I should have asked AAA to mark stores along the way. Thanks Guy. -pat

Pat, Boyd's (after sever moves around the downtown area) is back on MAIN St. - Advance Music is on Church (mostly MIDI) and I believe Vermont Folk Instruments is still on Church. That's about all I'm aware of... I live 'out of town' and only work in the area. Rich

Oops! I assumed you meant record shops for some reason. For guitars I would try Boyd's, or Advance Music (which is now on the lower end of Main St.)...... Guy

There are not many places on Burlington that have live music. The ones I am most familiar with are: Club New England (Shelburne, RD., So. Burlington) Cover: $4 or $5 Nectars (Main Street, Burlington) No Cover The Border (above Nectars) Cover: around $3 The Front (Main Street, Burlington) Sometimes a Cover To hear covers of songs that make Billboard, Club New England is it; The Border is into Rap and Reggae; The Front and Nectars usually have bands with 2 or 3 members that play old rock and blues. For stores that sell musical instruments: Advance Music (Main Street, Burlington) Vermont Music (Burlington Square Mall, Burlington) Vermont Folk Instrument (Church St. Market Place, Burlington) Presto Music (in the "blue" mall across from University Mall, So.Burlinton) Contois Music (Pearl St., Essex Junction) IMO, Vermont Folk Instruments has the best selection of guitars (Martin, Gibson, Fender, etc), Contois the best selection of electronic stuff (all Yamaha). But the real fun is in 1.5 ft of fresh powder in the mountains...... Kevin. |
