1534.0. "Traynor Amps / Yorkville Sound" by MFGMEM::DERRICO () Wed Oct 25 1989 12:27

I was in Whurlitzers last night and noticed that Traynor is
selling their Bloc- Series amps as "YS" Yorkville Sound amps.
They are not using their Trainor logo anymore.

Yorkville Sound is the name of the company that makes/made Traynor
amps. Apparently Traynor was the last name of one of their designers,
I have a schematic with a signature that looks a lot like "Paul
Traynor". They've been marketing under the "YS" name for close to two
    years now.

I gigged with nothing but Traynor stuff for about seven years and
currently still use one. Solid, reliable, no BS, meat-and-potatoes
amps. For a company that's been selling amps in the US for so long,
it's interesting that they have never really been big sellers.

BTW, I had never seen any name act but Steve Miller (in 1973) use
Traynor stuff. That changed about a week ago when I saw (Canadian) C&W
singer K.D. Lang and her band the Reclines on the tube. Sure enough, a
couple of old black-faced Traynor tube amps on the stage....

I've seen a Yorkville sound catalog that includes products under
a variety of names, but all say made by Yorkville Sound on the back.
It's interesting to note that the back of the catalog lists
distributors for all over the world. The following names are included
    in the Yorkville catalog:

YS - BLOC amps and some low end P.A. cabinets

Yorkville -	STAGE 90 amps (one for guitar and one for keyboard)

Elite - higher end P.A. gear

Traynor - P.A. cabs and power amps

Audiopro -	low to mid P.A. gear (also called Micromix)

I remember a band out of Toronto called "Razor" that had Traynor
amps all over the stage. My old bass player had a BLOC 80 bass amp
that really kicked butt for it's size.

I remember seeing the James Montgomery band using Traynors once
    back in the seventies.

    Are "black-faced" Traynors "vintage" :-)

I've done some biz w/Yorkville/Traynor lately!

I replaced my Peavey KB300 with a YS BLOC 100K keyboard
amp. It's smaller and lighter than the KB300 but is more expensive
(lists around $600) and kicks butt. A great sounding portable
100 watt keyboard amp that has great dynamic (peavey's DDT compression
comes on too early for my liking and I know I'm not the only one
    that feels that way!).
I also set my P.A. system up with Elite cabinets. I purchased
the SW-600 subwoofers and M-600 mid/high cabs. Each of the four cabinets
is rated at 600 watts and uses R.C.F. speakers and drivers. These
are the same components that EAW (Eastern Acoustics Works) uses
and those are real high-end. The subwoofers are single 18's and
the mid/highs are 2 10's and a horn each. Nice rugged good sounding,
good looking P.A. cabs. They replaced my JBL Cabarets!

1534.5Inherited old head, but I don't know what I got.IMOKAY::magnellThu Apr 01 1993 12:5218
Been awhile for this note, but it fits the bill.

I recently inherited a Traynor Head from a brother who was moving.
This amp of course comes with no documentation.

Does any one know:

How to contact Traynor? address, phone# (In Canada I assume)

I like to get a schematic from them if possible.

Are the speaker outputs typically 4 ohm or 8 ohm or other (or does
it depend on the model)?

If I remember tonight, I'll jot down some info from the unit and post
tomorrow.

Yorkville does have a U.S. address. Check into a recent GP or
GW mag and it should be listed. I don't have one with me.

Well I called Yorkville yesterday. I also needed schematics for my old
tube amp - Buck may have a vague memory of the thing... Anyway, There is
a new number:

(416)837-8481 That's their Canadian number.

Saw an interesting Traynor Amp at a guitar show recently. It looked
like it was brand new. It was a sort of squarish looking combo with
I one speaker, probably a 12". I peeked in the back and found that it
had 6, yes count-em six output tubes. Must be a monster in a little
box! But what first caught my eye about this amp, is that it was
covered in tooled leather with cowboy stuff. Looked like somebody ought
to be plugging their G-branded 6120 into this thing.

Has anyone seen one of these before or know anything about it?
