1455.1 | NEED GROOVE TUBE AND 5881 ADVICE | VIDEO::STEELES | | Tue Sep 05 1989 14:08 | 19 |
| I looking for a dealer of Groove Tubes. The only one I know of in this
area (Boston, MA) is EU Wurlitzer and they are currently out of stock
in the rating that I want (1).
Neither La Salle nor Daddy's Junky Music carries them.
Any idea if I could contact the company direct to order them.
I'm also looking for 5881's which I understand are similar to the
Groove tubes rated 1. Any ideas on how I could obtain those?
Any assistance will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Stan

| At Jeff's request, I'll post a couple of my favorite SGE presets.
This one is a result of my trying to copy the sound of my Hiwatt 100
watt combo when everything on it's cranked to 10 through a PowerSoak.
One of the reasons I got the SGE was because I was tired of roasting my
amp using that thing to get that particular sound. I did this using a
demo unit before I bought it as a test. I thought it came pretty close
to the sound from the Hiwatt.

| I think this one sounds like the sound that Adrien Belew (or Robert
Fripp, although I thought it sounded like Belew) used on "The
Sheltering Sky" off King Crimsons "Discipline" album (I think that's
the right song).
It's best for slow things as the reverse gated reverb sounds goofy on
fast stuff. Kind of a mellow singing type tone.
Hope you enjoy it!

1455.5 | Bass Player wants SGE | USCTR1::JZAGER | | Wed Sep 27 1989 14:41 | 24 |

Does anyone having this unit play the bass? I've been thinking
about buying one of these units for awhile now for my bass rig.
How good are they? How many effects at one time? One dealer told
me seven another tells me nine, which one? My rig consists of a
Pierce Electronics BP-1 Bass Preamp into a Rane 3-way crossover.
My highs go out to a Carver 100 watt amp to two Hartke 2 x 10 cabinets,
my mids go to a 200 watt Carver amp to two Hartke 4 x 10 cabinets,
and my lows go out to another Carver 200 watt amp into two Hartke
1 x 15 cabinets. Also included in the rack is a dbx 160x and a
BBE Sonic Maximizer. The unit is fed from a Nady 650 wireless.
I've tried the Multiverb and liked it well, but I've heard that
this one is supposed to be about the best out. Is it?

My question is, how much do they go for in the US ? I'd like to

Can someone please either mail or post here, the address and phone
number for a US ART SGE distributer. I've been told some very sneaky
(but *legal*) ways of avoiding heavy import taxes, and I'm seriously
thinking of buying it Stateside and having it shipped over.
It would have been cheaper for me to buy a 200 air ticket and but
the sucker over there, than it is to buy it in England.
Like I side, it retails over here for 629.00, but by todays exchange
rate, I could buy it in the US for 322.00 !!
Thanks,

I've been trying the same loophole too. Prices for US stuff here in the
UK are ridiculous compared to the US. It's not just musical stuff
either, I really liked a Westinghouse refridgerator I saw over here, a
real big chunky double door design far superior to any European model, but
at over 1800 U.K. pounds (nearly $3000) it was way over the top (sorry
Mr. Moderator...I digressed for a bit there).
If it's not an imposition I'd like to ask the same favour of
someone. My only concern is that our mains voltage is 240v at 50Hz.
One would have to make sure the unit is adjustible in some way.
Cheers

How many effects can you run through that Westinghouse?
Seriously, the cost of shipping a refigerator to the UK from here
would about equal that of the price you talk about. I would be
willing to do it for something small like an effects rack, but a
refirgerator, sorry.

Yeah, the US use 110volts at ??hz and the UK use 240 volts at 50hz.
Does the SGE have switchable voltage ? If its intended for
professional musicians it should be, but if its not I can still
buy a transposer (I think thats what its called) and this should
deal with the voltage problems.
I'm looking into it further and will let ya know.
Thanks for the offer Mr Ed, I may just take you up on it 8^).
Cheers,

Sorry Sorry Sorry.
I didn't mean to suggest for one minute that I wanted a
refridgerator to appear in my mail tray.....I just used that a another
price mismatch example....a buddy of mine States side was going to ship
me his Corvette in bits at a time....but thats another story :-).
I was thinking more in terms of an SGE if somone was willing & it
could be done leagally.
I rang up the Customs & Excise people here & they said that on
musical equipment they charge 6% import duty & 15% VAT (Value Added Tax
which is payable on all purchases in this country) less 32 pounds
gift/souvenir allowance.
Please forget I ever mantioned the fridge....& the Corvette.

| Hey ! SGE/MP1 Owners ! Here's my favorite lead tone. Note that
the SGE is wired "Post MP1". The SGE uses the aural exciter, stereo
delays (250 and 500ms) and EQ.
On the MP1, note that the treble is almost all the way off, and
the presence is CRANKED. Kinda gives you that mega-driven-Yngwie
sound with some cool panned-delay from the SGE. Also note, that
I have a stereo EQ outboard also. You may need to adjust the presets
slightly to compensate. Enjoy !

| I realize that this note is for trading presets, which I do intend
to do (how about trading preset series for your MPT table - this
makes those "quadmode amps" look kind of simple with the 200
steps available) but there were a few questions about price.
Music Emporium carries the SGE for $500, 1-800-648-8460.
I've never seen a device that has so many uses: guitar effects,
vocal effects, keyboard effects, recording effects...and its
stereo (to be technical, dry side only...) with that interesting
mix slider.

Subject: ART SGE Upgrade
Date: 6 Mar 90 19:24:52 GMT
I just spoke with Jim Staholwski (sp?) at ART, and got the beef on the
SGE to SGE Mach II upgrade. The upgrade consists of 6 chips, which
are all socketed and user-installable. Available somewhere between the
end of May & beginning of June, (around $100.00) the upgrade gets you :
2 full seconds of delay
A 2-second sampler algorithm (not saveable, even using MIDI SysEx)
Midi data monitor (in HEX and English)
line eq ("speaker") simulator.
So, ART did keep their word about being "user-upgradable". What about that!
By the way, ART has their SysEx specs finalized for the SGE and will send
you a copy just for asking : (716) 436-2720.

have a Rockman type preset, I never really liked that sound much. Why

1455.23 | How to sequence through presets? | CIMPUL::BEFUMO | Between nothingness and eternity | Sun Jun 16 1991 14:03 | 7 |
| This isn't exactly a preset question but . . .
I understand that there's a way to set the sge up so that it will
sequence through a series of presets using an external switch hooked
through the jack on the rear (not the midi ports). If this is
accurate, could anyone explain how to do this? I picked on sge up
recently, but I didn't get a manual for it. I've been able to figure
out most of the other functions, but this one eludes me. Thanks.

Hi Joe,
Yes you can do this. There's a couple of steps involved. Basically
you do all the work in that maintenance menu section (the place you
set up the midi map and adjust the LCD view angle and stuff).
Bear with me because it's been a looooong time since I did that and
don't remember the exact names for some of the things. The footswitch
jack can do two functions, either bypass the unit, or step it through a
series of presets. The factory setting is to bypass the unit, you have
to find the portion in the menu that changes this. I don't remember
what it's called, but if you can't find it I'll look it up on mine for
you.
Then you set the preset sequence, and I think it's a section in that
menu that only comes up if you have the other option set already. I
don't remember exactly what it looks like either.
Take a look around in there and let me know if you can't figure it out
and I'll go mess with mine and remember exactly how to do it and what
those things are called.
Greg
