Is anyone familiar with the Gretch Silver Jet or Duo Jet
guitars? They look sort of like a Les Paul and have a
Bigsby trem. The Silver Jet has a real gaudy sparkle
top finish, and the Duo Jet comes in "normal" colors.
Both have DeArmond pickups. I've seen Joe Perry and
Billy Zoom (of X) with Silver Jets, and George Harrison
had a couple of Duo Jets.
I've been keeping my eyes open for one of these for
quite awhile, but haven't seen any. Have they suddenly
become collector's items or something? I was hoping
to pick one up for $200-$300. Is this out of line?
Has anyone spotted one lately? I've also heard of
a "Roc-Jet." How does that fit into the picture?
Thanks,
-Tom

Good luck in finding one for $200!! Ten years ago that might have
been possible but since the early eighties Gretsches have been rising
steadily in value. The small bodied ones are pretty rare (the small
body White Penguin is mentioned in another note in here as going
in the $10K+ price range!)

Eeeek! So much for that idea. Oh well, I can always
entertain the fantasy of finding one at a flea market.

| 1369.3 | Gretsch "Wilbury" guitars | ANT::JACQUES | Tue Jul 11 1989 10:32 | 10 | |
As Brian said, forget about buying a vintage Gretsch cheap.
However, Gretsch recently came out with a series of Traveling
Wilbury guitars. These have the same basic body shape as a Duo
Jet, with a single humbucking pickup, a whammy, and special
Traveling Wilburys graphics. The nice part is they are selling
rather cheap. Something in the order of $300. I was in Fitchburg
Music a couple of weeks ago, and they had two of them.
