1359.0. "Guitar WurlyGig, any interest??" by ANT::JACQUES () Tue Jun 27 1989 14:41

    Last November, I tried to get Ed Fitz of EU Wurlitzers (Worcester)
    to set up a guitar Wurlygig similar to the one held for the Commusic
    crowd. At that point it was too close to the holidays. Then after
    Cristmas they were too busy setting up the Paul Gilbert clinic, and
    were not willing to do it.

    Last week I was in Wurly talking with Eddy Fitz again. He informed
    me that he is now store manager, and has the authority to do things
    as he sees fit. He is now eager to do another Wurlygig, and would
    like to know if there is enough interest to make it worth his while.
    He would like to be assured that we will have >30 people. He is
    willing to close the store early, and give a demonstration of anything
    we are interested in.

    Who would be intersted in a Wurlygig, and what specific products
    would you be interested in having demoed? Keep in mind, that if
    he goes through all the trouble to set this up and it's a no-show
    it will be the last time he ever is willing to do this. If it is
    a success, we all stand to gain by establishing good group/personal
    repoire with the sales staff at Wurly, and can probably land a group
    discount from them.

    Please respond to let me know if you are interested or not.

1359.1What should the scope be ?ANT::JACQUESTue Jun 27 1989 16:3419
    Me again,

    	What should we be shooting for? Demo's of mostly electric
    guitars, fx, bass, acoustics, PA equipment, recording gear, midi?

    	If we make it too specific to electric guitar only, we might limit
    the attendance. If we go as far as to include keyboards and other midi
    equipment, the commusic crowd may outnumber us string-pickers. The
    main thing is that everyone gets their questions answered and gets
    to see the gear they are interested in demoed.

     	How about guitar repair. I understand Wurly has a very good
    guitar technician on the staff. If I asked Ed he might be willing
    to have the guy sit in to answer questions about repairs, custom
    work, etc.

1359.2I'd be there...XERO::ARNOLDAn advertising campaign for peaceTue Jun 27 1989 17:4118
    Eddie must really want to do this. He mentioned the same thing to me 2
    weeks ago but I've been too busy to follow-up. (Thanks, Mark.)

    I'd like to go as a guitarist and as a COMMUSICian. Guitar things I'd
    really like to see are the Fender Eric Clapton Strat compared
    head-to-head with the Strat Plus, any rack-mount preamps (tube and
    non-tube such as the Chandler and the new Roland thing). The
    maintenance aspect (such as how to fine-tune your intonation, etc.)
    would also be of interest.

    In COMMUSIC terms I'm interested in the Lexicon MRC (MIDI Remote
    Control), the Roland A-80 keyboard, and any other of the latest gizmos
    that I might not know about.

    With enough advance notice and if it didn't clash with out-of-town
    vacation plans, I'd be there.

1359.3topic: multi-effect unitsHAZEL::STARRWhat do ya do when you get lonely...?Tue Jun 27 1989 17:557
A topic I'd like to see discussed is a comparison of the various multi-effects
guitar processors out nowadays. Of particular interest would be stuff from
Digitech and the new ART SGE (which has everyone talking!). I personally am
not that knowledgeable in the electronic's end of things, and would always
appreciate in-store demos of these products.

    	I'd be interested in the effect processors as well as
    some of the new amps. I'd also like to hear some guitar
    tech stuff, like instrument setup.

    Great!! I think we should try to keep it limited to guitar, bass,
    and recording. Topics I'd be interested in include:

    	Comparison of various multieffects processors;
    	Comparison of tube preamps (ADA MP-1/Marshall/Jackson/Metaltronix)
    	Demo of some amplifiers (Marshall v.s. Metaltronix; Fenders;
    		Crates; whatever else they stock);
    	I'd love to see a demo of 'how to set-up a guitar' and/or what
    	they can do in terms of custom work;
    	I'd also like to hear the new Scholz products (especially the
    		compressor/limiter);
    	A demo of 4-track and 8-track recorders;
    	Maybe a comparison of some microphones.

    I would go. My interests would be recording gear: mikes and tape
    decks, mostly directed at acoustic instruments. Also effects
    processors and midi stuff. Wurly doesn't really have decent acoustic
    instruments but if they did I'd be interested in that as well. jt
1359.7Fender Clinic 7/17/89AQUA::ROSTIt's the beat, the beat, the beatWed Jul 05 1989 17:044

    On a related topic, Worcester MA Wurly's is having a Fender clinic
    on Monday, July 17th. If you're not on the mailing list, I'm sure
    they'll let get one to you if you call.

    So far, there are only 7 replies to this notes, and I wrote reply
    #1. We're gonna have to muster more interest than this or tell
    Eddy to forget it.

    I got an invite to the Fender clinic, and it falls on my wifes
    due date (due to have a baby that is). Chances are, I won't be
    there, but if she goes early, I might be able to attend. They
    are having a drawing for a Fender Strat give away.

    I'd be interested in it (for more than just guitar stuff too)
    but whether or not I could make it may or may not be a problem.

    I'd like to attend, along with my son who plays guitar.

    We have no special topics of interrest, we're interrested in all
    the stuff mentioned so far.

    Any approximate date?
