| I'd heard that most music stores will give you about half what they
intend to get for a trade in. I imagine that there are others here
more knowledgeable in this area than I am though. I presume that it
depends on the markup on whatever it is that you're buying and the deal
you cut on that too.
Figure that they will pad the asking price some too, because most
places expect negotiation on the price, so they probably don't expect
to really get what they have marked on your bass. I find that most
music stores will take 15%-20% less than the marked (asking) price for
most items, maybe more if you're a regular customer.

| Most delears accepting trade-ins will allow you the current wholesale price,
which is roughly half retail price. In my experience, it's almost universal.

Yup, I agree with both .1 and .2. When I asked about trading
my Fender a few years ago folks were offering $150, but now that
I've given it to a store on consignment, they're asking $295.

You also put an EMG active pickup into it, and prices are going up due
to inflation. That's enough to justify the price rise.

Re: EMG
Nah, I put the old pickguard and pickups in it before I traded
it. I did it right there in the store too. The salesman said it
wouldn't make any difference as far as trade value goes. It would
have been interesting to see if the price was any higher *with*
the EMG.
