1288.0. "Silvertone Electric worth anything?" by CAADC::WDBOUCHA (OA$SURF) Fri Apr 28 1989 21:08

Recently I was in a pawn store and caught glimpse of what appeared
to be an older Silvertone electric - rather odd body shape with
a reddish wood look to it, 2 pickups, screw in neck. Might there
be anyway to date th and/or get an idea of what this might be worth
    if anything?

Some Silvertones *are* worth money, not a lot but they can command
$200-300 price tags when in very good condition. The ones that are
worth the most are the Danelectro-built models. These are easily
identified by the "lipstick tube" pickups and non-contoured bodies with
pebbled material on the side of the body. These came in both single
cutaway (vaguely Les Paul shaped) or double cutaway (vaguely Strat
shaped) models. These appear to be solid bodies, but are actually
hollow. Some were sold together with cases that had built-in
amplifiers. The combo of the guitar and amp/case is typically worth
more than the two pieces separately, to a collector, at least.

There were some later Silvertones, still with lipstick pickups,
with real solid bodies that look more like cheap Japanese guitars
of the 60s. These are worth much less. Silvertones built after
Danelectro went under have essentially zero value.

Check out dir/tit="off the wall" for more on these guitars.
