1262.1 | Just do it. | ELESYS::JASNIEWSKI | We're part of the fire that is burning! | Tue Apr 18 1989 14:11 | 7 |

Sure! Go ahead and lower 'em. Just *compensate* for the distance
to pole piece change by lowering your pickups too. Make the strings
too low, and they'll be buzzing against the frets. Adjust 'em low
enough for your liking, but not so low that they buzz.

1262.2 | check for neck bow too | RICKS::CALCAGNI | | Tue Apr 18 1989 14:26 | 16 |
| Of course, your strings may be high due to excess bow in the neck,
in which case you won't be able to drop the strings low enough without
getting buzz on the higher frets. To check for neck bow, fret the
E string at the first fret and at the fret where the neck joins the body
simultaneously, and check that there isn't too much clearance between
the string and any interveneing frets.
How much is too much? My advice, get it done once by a pro and
remember how it was set up.
There are some other notes in this conference that might help re
setup, but I can't recall where they are.
Good luck

1262.4 | Those "E-string" Blues. | FSTVAX::GALLO | Glory Days | Wed May 31 1989 10:50 | 17 |

I have a question surrounding this. I adjusted the action on
my bass last night to something I'm happy with. I noticed two things,
after I did it. First, after I noticed that the E is quite loose
compared to the other strings. Note that I did *not* adjust the
E at all. This causes a loss of definition in the E string. The
E also seems hard to tune correctly, due to the lack of tension
on it. I also noticed a slight change in the intonation of the
bass. It seems to be in, but "slightly?" off.
Any Ideas.
Tom
BTW- This is a new PV Fury Bass

1262.5 | Back To The Dealer | AQUA::ROST | It's the beat, the beat, the beat | Wed May 31 1989 11:29 | 7 |

Best idea: Go back to the dealer and have him set the action to
where you like it, and then intonate it. For a new bass, they should
do this for free.
Gee Tom, you gotta stay away from those E strings, you seem to have
nothing but trouble with them. 8^) 8^) 8^)
