I have a Rickenbacker 330 and a few questions. 1). What kinds of strings have people had the most success with for 330's? (I'm wondering if this questions is only answerable as "a question or personal taste" or if there really is a string made for these guitars.) I like a brighter sound - clear, but rough, if that makes sense. I've tried Fender Bullets and Ernie Ball, but something (i.e., responsiveness) seems to be missing. Someone suggested I might try Roto-sound strings. What does the general public think? 2). I like to use delay and distortion with the 330, but at higher amplification it feedsback terribly. What can I do about this? 3). How do I tell if the guitar needs to be intonated? 4). Any suggestions for the 330 would be appreciated. Cheers, Paul

Rickenbacker thoughts from a non - believer.... Paul, I have never owned one, but that won't stop me from bending your ear. 1. Feedback.. I think Ricky's are semi solid and these always tend to feedback at lower volumes. You can minimise this by stoping the body from resonating ie. filling it with cotton wool. I have done this to get effect on a Gibson leas Paul copy..but can you get entry on a Ricky ???? You can also use EQ ie. a graphic equaliser to remove the resonant peaks. If you don't have one then use your bass and treble controls. For a stronger effect, use the EQ before you feed into the distortion unit. 2. I have to say that the pickups on Ricky are a great sound, but low on output. Changing to a higher output model will reduce the feedback problem. 3. Be aware that all the above will change your sound. I hope this stimulates some more specific advice from Ricky owners and experts. /Dave | |||||
